When I was a little kid I had a pet duck. Everyday I ate my duck egg fried over easy with toast for breakfast. I love 'em! I never even considered that other people might think a duck egg was weird and not want to eat them. Yes they do make wonderful baked goods as well!

Before we realized it was a duck egg we mixed one in with the scrambled eggs. That's when I noticed how huge the yolk was, reexamined the shell color and remembered I'd found it on the floor of the coop not in a nest box. Light bulb went off when I found another the same color on the floor the next day. Didn't match any of my hens' egg colors. It took a few days to convince me they really were from a duck! I expected them to be larger. Now I can't wait for more!!!

Some breeds lay a lot better than others - just like chickens.

My duck that laid the best was of all things a meat breed - a white Pekin.
Her name was Nipper and she often laid an egg in the morning and another egg in the same afternoon!

We only had the one duck, so their could be no mistake. I have never had any other bird repeat her volume. Too bad we never bred her and hatched those eggs, we could have been on to something.

I think it's my Khaki Campbell who is laying. They're known for laying a LOT of eggs! Got another one this morning.

Ok, what are you feeding your ducks?????
Honestly? since they decided to live with the chickens they eat layer pellets with them. They get some scratch grains every other day. Fresh water throughout the day. Whatever they find in the yard and that's it! Oh I do give them fresh greens once in a while. And warm oatmeal when it's really cold.
You're not thinking they're spoiled or anything are you?

Nope, I'm thinking I need to start feeding what YOU'RE feeding :gig

Right now they're enjoying a stiff shot of rain puddle water. Silly creatures!
