Aww, those pics are wonderful! He is a natural, and I'm not just saying that! So much about his position is wonderful, especially for the...what...second lesson? And that pony is the perfect size (today, anyways!)

One caution I have, get something for his feet with a heel. It is a safety thing. Those sneakers might have one that doesn't show in the pics, as I know riding sneakers are available. But if not, get him some boots with a small heel to prevent his foot from ever slipping into the stirrup and getting stuck.

Omg pony!! I'm such a sucker for fuzzy ponies (obviously, as though my name doesn't give it away.) And your son is so perfect on the pony! I agree with Free, amazing position.

I gave all my kid sized riding stuff away to a girl I gave lessons to years ago or I'd send you some boots, gloves and such.

If you gals look close at the pics getting a foot stuck should not be a problem, even with tennis shoes. The saddle has Peacock Stirrups, which means that one side of the stirrup is an elastic band. Looks like that instructor knows what they are doing ... properly sized mount, safety saddle and most important a helmet. :thumbsup :thumbsup

I know your son will really benefit from the lessons. Next step ... 4-H! :D

Just ordered him riding boots and a helmet for his birthday. He was wearing hiking boots that did have a bit of a heel but we discovered last week his feet have grown a full size and a half since the fall and they don't fit well!

Oh and thanks for the comments on the position.
This is a really small place and I have ZERO horse experience so I went on the recommendation of a few friends who are very experienced. It seems like a great fit for us. She is laid back and yet very safety conscious. No one gets on a horse without a helmet. When she hops on she grabs a helmet. Everyone is dressed to ride. The girls and women all wear the pants and boots etc. The one other boy had boots with a heal but wore jeans. And it's all very low pressure. Nobody is talking about shows and ribbons which would stress DS right out. That's why he quit gymnastics. They wouldn't let up about him competing and he wasn't interested. So we let him stop. I don't think he even has an awareness of horse shows and ribbons beyond the fact that his cousins have rooms full of them. :D

:love

AWESOME pictures! Yes, this horse farm is the one I was thinking of. In my mind, the stretch between 97 in scotland and the post office "your way" is about a mile long....even though it's not!

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, hopefully! Don't stress to make it out, of course, but if you've got some downtime and can take a ride, come out my way! If you're around later in the day you're welcome to come out and see the goats after I get home, too!

We can play it by ear. Mostly I need to be cleaning out the computer room for the chicks that are coming in less than 2 weeks. I think we're getting two Dominiques and two Delawares, only because I can't decide which I want more. I really only want 3 chicks. Maybe one will be hateful and I'll rehome it. Yeah, right...

Man! Just went out to get the mail. Came back and opened every door and window I could. It's warmer outside than it is in here!!

Ugh, Thomas the wether, the formerly white wether, broke his scur off a little bit ago. Thankfully DH was just arriving from work. Long story short, nothing we were trying was getting the bleeding to stop until DS stuck his head in to remind us that our good friend was told to use cobwebs on her sheeps' wounds. Son of a gun. It seems to have worked. Now to start the clean up process and figure out what if anything we need to do for him next.
