Home wasting time till I can bring the old dog to the vet. We were literally headed out the door this morning when I heard a crash. DS found Kobi on the floor shaking. He obviously fell off the couch but we're not sure if the fall caused the problem or if he had a seizure or stroke and that caused the fall. He wobbled himself to the door, pooping as he walked and insisted on being let out. I had to run DS down the hill to the bus which luckily was right on time. I went back up to the house and Kobi was lying on the kitchen floor. He got up as soon as I came in and wanted OUT. He got himself down the three stairs and into the yard. I watched as he wobbled and fell over twice. Then he did his business and lay down under the big pine tree. He relaxed a bit and just lay there looking at the chickens and goats. Not typical behavior in the least for him. My mom came over on her way to work to see if I needed help getting him into the house but he was able to do it with a little coxing from me. He's lying on a dog bed in living room (where the Aussie died two years, a month and 4 days ago :/ ) He's relatively comfortable but not "right".
DH is on pins and needles. This dog is his baby. We got him as a two year old when the son of my office manager broke up with his live in GF and decided the dog tied him down too much. He was going to give him to a friend who lived on a farm but her father said no at the very last minute. SO the guy was going to take him to the Humane Society. His mother intervened and asked me to keep him here until her son could find another place for him. He's been here for 11 years. He walked into our backyard, looked around, looked at DH and said, "Hey dude. I'm home." They've been best buds ever since. When we were in Russia for 12 days the dog almost died of starvation because he missed DH so much.
I expect the end isn't far off. I've been saying that for a few months now. I don't know that it's going to be today. I'll be able to bring him home after the appointment most likely and we can make decisions later. I'm a little worried about leaving him since he's not crate trained and I don't have one big enough for him anyway. Shutting him in the bathroom would cause him more stress than anything. Sigh. Time to see if I can get him in the car by myself. At least he rides well. If I can't get him into the back of the wagon I should be able to get him onto the back seat.
