So we just told DS that the dog is being neutered next week. He asked what that meant. I've never seen his eyes so big!!
We absolutely froze at practice. The wind chill must have been in the 30s. I am just now feeling my toes and fingers again.
Last weeks quote of the week is from a Special Ed student at the HS so it can't really count as ridiculous. But it was humorous. We were doing a vocabulary unit about occupations and I asked her what a person who cuts mens hair is called. Her answer, a butcher. Hey, she was pretty close. I kept a straight face and got her clear on the difference between a barber and a butcher and chuckled a bit later. The rest of the kids were so out of control I couldn't hear anything specific.

Back from WF. Starting some closest clean-up etc. in our bedroom. I've had a headache since being out in the cold wind this morning and I can't quite shake it. I've got the Victory Garden on the TV. I've got seedlings up in the basement and the magnolia down the hill has huge buds forming. It just feels like winter..

Sigh, got a chicken with an swollen eye. BO, couple of years old. No one else affected. I hope it stays that way. We've never dealt with anything like this in all our years of chicken owning. I did a little reading over at BYC and got very discouraged. I guess we'll take a look in the morning and take it from there.
Went to a very unfun birthday party with DS. It was for the granddaughter of the lady across the street. They're nice people but I left feeling like a snob. The party was held in their little sunroom. The whole time we were there the TV was on. First it was Family Feud then more stuff I would never watch. Finally the kids went out to play and I followed. Finally I begged off and went to TSC since DH was home from buying hay. And yes, thank goodness we were able to get 10 more bales. The guy said this is probably the last time he'll have any this spring. Ugh.
SO the guy next door has been building something in the yard. Today curiosity got the better of me and I sent DS to the fence to ask what it was. It's a greenhouse, a pretty big one. I've never known him to be much of a gardener so I'm really curious. He's married and has 3 young daughters so I'm pretty sure it will be legal, whatever it is.
I'm hoping to start building our raised beds tomorrow. We've got some materials to get started. Could be a very green summer on our little street between the neighbor and me!

HAPPY VACATION!
Our RIR rooster, Chester (yes, he came with that name too - but luckily we love him as he's super nice), had a funky eye the other week too and now it's just gone. Literally - he's only got one eye now. He's sorta getting up there in age and the younger boys are taking over, but he still can hold his own.
Our hay people are pretty much out of hay too. We've only got one more peice of equipment to buy and we can start haying our own front field and my grandmother's. We can't wait!

Lovin' The Homestead
We had the TV on for my son's 5th birthday party....It was a WALL-E themed party so I had the movie playing. Other than that we've never had the TV on for the kids...they always kept themselves occupied by playing. I like to have a project for them to do - something the parents have to get involved with too. For the WALL-E party they all made robots, the year before, which was a dinosaur theme, they made dirt cake and colored dinosaurs. This year was a lego theme so they created a lego city.
