I didn't recognize you is not an insult. It just means they expected you to look a different way. The other ones can MYOB. It's your hair. Do what you want with it. I recently went from hair near the waist, to very short and I didn't even warn hubby I was cutting it.
If you want any hair advice- I always thought purple was a nice color.

I once sprayed my hair purple with one of those Halloween temporary sprays. All day long, I had total strangers striking up conversations with me or smiling and giving me "thumbs up", all sorts of positives- even from young people who usually try to pretend older people don't exist. I think that what it did was show people that I have a sense of humor, which made me more approachable. It was rather nice, actually

I did purple hair for Halloween before and was touching it up in the ladies room. A very old lady (80's) walked in and asked me to do hers too. We had lots of fun hanging out that night.

Now that would be funny! And I'd fit right in with the kids at the HS! THere's this one really tall handsome boy who bleached his very dark hair last year, then did some really fantastic things with it. For a couple of weeks it was a marigold kind of yellow, then he worked in some sunburst orange. It really was a work of art. And he was really non chalant about it. So when a 47 year old staff member said, "Oh cool!" each time he changed it, he simply took it as a compliment. I should talk to him!
I think I will just go a shade lighter than it is naturally and let her comment on my dark roots when it's time for a touch up. And I do intend to have it cut some and style for the new year. But NOT to suit HER!
