If I had a place to keep them penned up I would get some silkies. I don't think free ranging would be good for longevity however.

My friend free ranges his and they do great. But I guess it depends on what you have for predators, he doesn't have any daytime predators.

Standard of Perfection in the US says 32 oz for hens, 36 oz for roosters

I have a picture in my head of giant silkies kind of like a standard cochin! That would be awesome, lol.

We've joked about breeding them big enough to ride.

Silkies are still little birds. If I can get the roosters up to 6 pounds it would be neat
