How Are They Chosen...?

Was just wondering how moderators are choosen to a message board..? Does each forum have its own way of choosing, or are moderators assigned by someone..? I have no idea how this works, thous the question...Just want to know how its done, since i haven't been online and involved in the ways of forums and message boards that long, are they one and the same...?

I think most times the Administration just hand picks somone. I was a mod on a board YEARS ago, and that is how they did it

Weird. I was done the same way. I figured it out about a week into it

I was a member of a politics forum decades ago. Based on the way I communicated in the forum, the admin contacted me and made me a mod.
