I'm hearing worrying predictions re Florence heading for you guys later this week. Who is likely to be affected and what are you all doing to prepare?

Spotted on FB... Hurricane Tip:
Put waters and drinks in washer and fill with ice. Drinks stayed cold for days! And water just runs out.

So glad they are getting out and have a place to go!

My adult (kids) always have a place to go, no invitations needed :) Bonus... I get granddaughter and grandson time. So I'm looking at Florence as a positive, at least from my prespective. However, for those that are negativly impacted, I hope it's not bad.

I wanted to post something about post-disaster, I see that MD is now taking refugees from the Carolina's. It is in the post phase that things get dicey for different reasons, looting, fraud, and anger are next after the emergency as the cleanup drags on. I wanted to share this as I attended a show this weekend, but I ran across a very interesting shoulder holster with a one click release.

http://www.usgungear.com/shop-online/shoulder-holsters-and-rigs

At the price of $40 the material and quality was there, this is a light and comfortable holster and sling. Mark and Wendy Fryer are owners and after discussing with them I purchased a sling and was incredibly surprised at the fit, quality, and release. In an emergency self-protection is self-preservation, during the initial stages of an emergency crime is purposefully under reported as emergency personnel are overwhelmed. And the reason I shared this is that shoulder holsters that are secure, functional, and fitted typically cost much more. The shoulder holster I got for $40 was fitted for a revolver. Lifetime warranty, "Speed release retention system" (that second item) one-click release.. nice. In respect to the gun question this is good advice

A used (you can save some money buying used) 357 revolver is the best bet, using 38-special rounds if recoil adverse, the shoulder holster at that price is comparable in costs to a Fobus which is a paddle waist type carry, but again.. with the retention system and warranty a genuinely good buy. I think the problems south of us in PA are just starting, not to be negative, just realistic. Finally I generally keep opines about firearms to myself, it is an emotional issue. However when I come across a small business with a patent and a genuinely better product, I share that information.

South of me. @Mini Horses how close are you to the coast?

As a crow flies....50 miles inland, 12 miles above NC state line.

I won't have any coastal flood, wind/water wash out. Farm is high, so excess runs off & away but, low couple miles away and roads often get overrun/closed at least for a while. Just a lot of smaller river runs all around which creates a good amount of flooding as water seeps to them. Hate the thought of the power outages that are almost unavoidable in the country. Our co-op is fantastic at fast repair and keeping as much clear as they can. :fl Praying for best. It's just wait and worry now.

I feel pretty good about no massive/extreme damage. May get wind issues, may not. That is what makes for worse issues for me -- winds. I'm well insured! :D

As of today, it seems to have wandered a little further South, so while Wilmington is still on it's bullseye target, it is looking like SC & even Ga will get the heavy edges now -- more than VA. It is terrible that anyone has to deal with all this but, I can't not admit to some relief here. Rain will still get us, the coast will be torn up bad from all the "hanging around" that this storm is doing. My own little farm will prob get very wet, some winds.

A hurricane does allow some prep time, unlike a tornado, etc. None are fun!

A lot of people think that their home owners insurance will cover them in these circumstances, but homeowners insurance won't pay for flood damage. I buy flood insurance every year and I've never needed it....but by golly I will have it until the day I die!

My daughter, son in law and two grand kids live on the coast of northern South Carolina and are under mandatory evacuation order. They left this morning and they will be here in southern IL this evening.
