Everyone has been so busy since I have been away. Its impossible to catch up. Love the taters. I have one bag left that I have not touched yet. Praying that they make. Taters have not been my strong gardening point this year.

Wow, those potatoes look great. I think I may re start my basket. I raked up all the mulch and straw from the last one. Moved the wire back into place. Now I just need a couple starter potatoes.

Thanks for the solar info as well. I am trying to absorb as much o this as possible. Perhaps for the new company.

Thank you for the reminder - I've got to bring my fork up to Maine tomorrow, those taters should be just about ready now!

So there I was standing in my booth when I was approached by a older man, dressed like an outfitter/guide. In his 60s, came over and introduced himself as Stan and began to talk to me about hedge rows. Some things are out of the blue, at the time I was to busy talking and listening to his storys of being ss and better ways to garden/hunt. This was a conversation that took place over a half hour or more. After he had left, it dawned on me that he could have been a member here, didn't cross my mind until he left. LOL.... So somewhere in my own mind I know he could have been just some guy bragging up his life of being ss because I look like a ss kinds guy myself. But I can't discount that he is a member here or a lurker, when I do shows its public where and when I am going to be. So Stan if your out there good to meet you, and if my hello is just in the air, I had a nice conversation about being ss this past weekend.

Late friday I exchange the deep cycle battery because the one I had gotten was bad or wouldn't hold a charge. The new one I used all weekend without a problem. I ran both the register and computer for over 9 hours each day and the battery is still at 97% charge. I didn't hook the solar charger up to it at all, I wanted to test the water with the battery alone. I hooked up 10 ten 60 watt CFB which draw 13 watts each, and they are now on and I wanna see how long they will stay on until the battery runs out of juice. If they last 8 hours or more, I will be pleased because that means I won't have to buy a generator and customers will be able to shop with lights without the noise.

My tomato plants are showing signs of a blight that is spreading through the state. The fruit is rotting from bottom to top, leaves are dieing and showing spots of a fungus that is spreading throughout this area/state. I removed the infected parts and burned them last night. I mixed baking soda and water and sprayed my plants, but fear I will need to purchase some copper sulfate to treat them with. I would rather use a non-organic spray than loose my crop.

My plants are very healthy, and its only a couple that are showing signs. I may end up pulling those plants out, burning them in order to save the rest of the crop. Between work, family life, and the rain, the weeds are very happy growing in my garden this year. Of course the war goes on and I won the battle last night. Corn is looking good, Jacks stalk is looking good, more green beans, I have green beans coming out of my ears this year.

Dang blight/fungus pulled two plants loaded with tomatoes. I weighted them almost half grow tomatoes, 27 pounds, or over 40 pounds of ripe tomatoes gone, wasted, food lost, at 2.99 a pound in the store, thats well over 120.00 dollars gone. All the hard work,

On a better note, guess what I got today?

See, one great reason to be legally armed. I have a carry permit, so I am always armed. I can not carry inside of some buildings in town county, state and federal. But everywhere else, yup. So as I took my garbage bag down to pull those tomato plants, guess who was looking right at me? Why was I armed working in the garden? Because I was working and had to get those plants out right away, and also I have a fear that some giant is going to come down jacks stalk and take me away. I stopped, drew, loaded a round, took it off safe and than he ran. Well, he died tired because he ran. It was a kill shot, however badly placed. I will not be able to eat the meat. I placed a follow up shot as to make sure he wouldn't suffer. Thats the end of this ground hog, I am sure more will come. I placed his body back down in his burrow as a warning to other ground hogs in the area. THIS HOME IS OFF LIMITS......

Doesn't it feel jusr great to get the little bugger? We are fighting an uphill battle at FIL's garden. His property is adjacent to open land and gophers are his plague. He's been putting his vegetables and favorite flowers in wine barrels. That's fine for him, since he just needs a little bit of some things. He can always come to us for more.

Great to hear about your deep cell and lights. I happen to have about 12 of those brand new deep cells in my garage. Not sure if I can convince the husband to let me use them but maybe just maybe...

Glad to hear about the ground hog. Does this mean winter will come early or end sooner? No hog no shadow right?

You have bears in your woods right? I think gardening with a gun would be normal.

G, I ran the lights for 33 minutes and out they went, I will still use the solar charger for my remote electrical fence that I will put around my garden when I get enough post. So I am back at square one with the remote lighting issue, though I haven't ruled out LED lighting yet, yes I did. They consume 10 watts. So I guess I will need a generator anyway.

I will still be able to run the computer and register on the deep cycle battery. So those problems are solved.

I never claimed to be a rocket scientist, though I like to role play now and then.
