Out to pasture
We had 3 hail storm today. It's definitely been a crazy weather here on the left coast north of San Francisco!
We had flood watches too, 60 mph wind gusts and a tornado on friday! yikes.

Almost Self-Reliant
Well, hubby and I drove down to check out the storm damage. One mobile home was picked up and deposited on the other side of a 4 lane highway. A house was moved about 25 feet off it's foundation. The woman in the house was in bed watching the weather man when he said a tornado was approaching and take cover. She got up to go to the hall and got thrown into the hall. The thing ripped off the 2 outside walls of her bed room and left the bed in place. She was all right. When the reporter and weather man (Todd Howell) went down to do the news she said, "There's Todd Howell. He saved my life."
It's a small community but everyone was out helping the neighbors, rebuilding fences so their cattle wouldn't get out, picking up their belongings, preparing food. Sometimes I think the Good Lord does things like this to remind us we're supposed to be good neighbors. Thank God no one was killed. If I heard it once I heard it a hundred times yesterday: "This is just stuff. You can replace stuff, you can't replace a life."

WOW KC..... the skies broke yesterday, and this morning the much welcomed sun is laying its wonderful rays down without the heat.
Though the temps are cool, it is great to see the sun and all its light.
I added two more jugs to the cold frame, and I made my own fence post and purchased plastic fencing. Although it will be 8 foot tall, I am using four foot fence, and adding electric fence wire (free) to the top and tagging it with plastic marker tape. I am also going to fence off the orchard after I noticed that the deer had their way with my barlet Pear tree.
On a personal level, I just want to say I feel like I am living again after feeling like I was being suffocated for so long. I felt like I wasn't allowed to live, life seemed like a chore instead of a blessing. I am glad I hung on and didn't cause pain to my family members around me. I credit wisdom, family and my faith with me being alive today.
Being a soldier, I was taught not to fear death, thou I admit I did in combat but wasn't at the fore front of my mind. That thinking created a volatile, self destructive way of thinking during the lowest time of my life. When I post, I write about the things I want to share from an honest point of view.
If you read my blog, and if you read my post, I do recommend that you join it to keep up. This week I have written about the grain mill as well as my visit with the state boys yesterday. But my point is that I post keeping all that I do honest and at the level SS I want.
What you will learn when you read my blog is how far deep I reach into being ss by getting into my community, investigating, finding resources and better ways to live ss. I claim not to be a guru at all, rather a active roll in finding better ways to be ss at "our" level without the big show boat approach.
I wrote about the grain mill in three parts, and I added 37 behind the scenes photos. It was an adventure I was glad to take. The article about the state boys you will see a rare native fish being stocked.....
Be sure to leave me some feedback here or there...
Is there something you would like me to investigate and find out about living a self sufficient lifestyle? Post your thoughts, and if its practical for me to do, I'll take it on.

And my outdoor light I built 4 years ago, shade is mica, bottom is stained glass yellow, whit and green. I made it from copper. I think the patina is perfect..

Just dropping in to say hi. Its been a while since I posted but I have been trying to keep up.
My garlic did not come back last year and I did not plant any more. But thinking about planting again. Is yours in a raised bed? Oh and I love the patina of that light too.

I have some purple and yellow crocus coming up around my clothes line posts. I have to say, it certainly makes for a better time hanging clothes out LOL.
