This is not new.....sadly. It is old news, yet bpa is EVERYWHERE. Guess what, it even lines the lids of our canning jars. At lease we can store them so that the food doesn't touch the lid (after the canning process). I wish I could use the old-fashioned jars in my pressure canner.

This is why I made the switch to glass bottles for all my grab-n-go beverages. I got an under-the-counter water filter and look forward to having it installed, then no more Brita pitcher. I use glass to carry lunches and snacks. I use glass and ceramic to store leftovers. I wrap stuff in a paper towel before putting it into a plastic bag, it that is the only way to transport a particular item.

Add these endocrine disruptors to soy, preservatives, problems with vaccinations.....it is a scary world we live in.

That is all we drank out of in the summer...the hose!! Me and the dog! That hose sat in the sun all summer long too, getting nice and toxic. EEK!!

I thought that if the plastic bottle had a #1 inside the triangle it was safe.

I stopped buying those dreaded things last summer. We only used them occasionally anyway. We all have metal thermos agua containers now.

I used to drink out of garden hoses too. Until I worked for the water dept at our city. That's when I learned that the stuff from the garden hose leaches into the water, especially on hot days and then it can travel back into the house and contaminate your household water. It'll make your house hold water taste different, smell bad and can even make a person sick.
Don't leave your garden hose connected to the faucet unless you get an antisyphon device attached to your faucet. These can be had for around a buck at your local hardware store.

The grocery store here has pallets of sale items in front of the store, in the sun, in the 123 degree heat. What items? Bottled water, Gatorade, and some vitamin water. They did that a few months ago with oatmeal and canned goods. At least it wasn't 123 then. Why would they think this is a good idea? Can you imagine how the bottled water tastes now? Ewwwwwwwwww.

Have any of you noticed how they 'line' the cans we buy as well? Next time you open a can of tomatoes take notice...that 'fresh' white plastic liner in there is absolute nonsense...whatever did the world do before plastic?

Morel, the white plastic lining on cans of tomatoes is there because of the acidity of the tomatoes. If it weren't, the tomatoes/sauce would discolor and pick up some of the metals from the alloy used for the can and solder. Which used to be a significant problem. The solution may have problems of its own but it sure ain't absolute nonsense.

What makes anyone think anything should be "safe"? This is life. Nothing is 100% risk- or problem-free. EVERYTHING is bad for you in some amount or in some way or on some occasions or to some people. There are no free lunches. Obviously some choices are more sensible than others, but why be surprised at something not being "safe"?

Before endocrine disruptors, preservatives, and vaccinations there were unavoidable malnutrition, starvation, and seriously killer diseases. While I'm not a favor of any of the first three, I'm not feeling especially nostalgic for the wonders of the last three either.
