QA, they are supposed to wach the house today. IF they dont...the couple will press charges, and sue for damages. ( this is a brand new home, only 2 yrs old)

Ohhhhh, I DO need my coops cleaned. Hmmm, I bet I can talk to the one kids mother..and explain how I was traumatised with the visit from the sheriff..and the neighbors...and I just dont have the energy to muck out the barn.

So, I have my grandson here for the weekend, while his parents are in INDY, with Baby Kaylen. I just love haveing him here. He is 9 yrs old, and VERY city boy...private school, name brand clothes, new shoes every 3 or 4 months, and when he gets a scratch, its disinfected, washed, and bandaged....even if there is no blood! So, when he gets out here....well...he is lucky if his clothes are wearable again when he gets home.
So, we were sitting here watching Dog Town....and there was a commercial about " a world without oil" and it went on showing how there will be no food on the shelves. Now this is something his little 9 yr old mind cant completely wrap around...and he says. Those people are crazy, we will NEVER run out of oil or food! Sooooooooooo, I took this as a great opportunity for a lesson on Earth Wise. He asked how oil is made...and gas..and Electric...It was starting to get involved..ALMOST above MY level..LOL I explained how much gas and oil was used to produce the food on the store shelves....tractors, chemical fertilizers, transporting seeds, food, etc. He was really getting into the conversation...his little wheels turning in his head...then he said.. Grandma..YOU dont use alot of gas to make YOUR food. You dont need tractors, or store bought stuff. Why can't people be more like you?"
I just hugged him and said...Baby, one day soon, there will be more people like me...not because they want to, but because they will have to. He sat there for a few seconds and said...I wish WE lived on a farm like yours, so we could use less gas and energy. Maybe there IS hope for this generation yet? But of course, a few minutes later..he said.. Grandma, I brought some microwave popcorn with me, can I go make it? 
I think tomorrow night, we will make popcorn on the woodstove...another lesson for the young. He is my helper this weekend, getting things ready for the baby shower Sunday. Oh, and I came up with a cute idea...taking those tortilla scoopers, the ones that look like little bowls..and putting in some ground beef with taco seasoning, then salsa, finely shredded lettuce, and cheese. Mini taco salads!! Whatcha think!?? Sounds like a lot of work, but will be cute I think. They will go with the mini pizzas on ritz crackers, Lil' smokies, a veggie tray with tiny tomatos, mini sweet pickles, baby carrots, and small sliced celery...and I made a dip, with Kefir solids, garlic, and seasoning. ( they wont know it, but they will ALL be getting a little bit healthy)
I also made a huge bowl of Ham salad, and will make sandwiches cut on the diagonal...and have some sorta sun chips I think.

I am glad you are taking the time with your grandson to make the wheels grind. They are so unexposed to things these days. I bet he doesn't even KNOW you can make popcorn without a microwave.

FF, I told him that we are going to make popcorn on the woodstove tomorrow night....his response?? Wont the bag burn?? HAHA! Kids. Boy, is HE in for a surprise!

That is just the way they think. Maybe next spring you should let him PLANT a popcorn patch.
We actually grew some pretty decent corn when I still lived in townhouses in a 5 X 5 foot patch. Prepare the ground and then start the corn plants in those little mini peat pots. That makes it REALLY easy to get the rows in straight and with no thinning the crop does great. We planted our corn in a block fashion spacing the plants about 12 inches apart each way and then mulched it really well. I bet he would really be proud if he could give his friends some popcorn he planted himself.

I actually bought popcorn seed for this years planting. Thats a good idea....I will give him his own little area to care for..when he comes over. He really is a good kid, and wants to learn about "farming" He asks LOTS of questions.

What a sweet boy! I just love those light bulb moments....even if it is mostly over his head, you got him thinking! 
I love the menu for your party....sounds perfect! The little taco salads should be done at the very last minute...just have everything prepped and in bowls....then a quick assembly line will get 'er done!

Well, the popcorn popping went well. Of course he kept wanting to take the lid off..to " watch them pop" Then he suggested we just lay the kernals on the stove, and let them pop, and try to catch them as they do! Sometimes I wish I could be a little brain cell...and be inside his head, to see how it works!
The baby shower went great!! My sister came early and helped with the last minute preps. Everyone seemed to have a great time playing games, eating, and talking. My DIL made out well, and she still has 2 more baby showers to go! Whew! She asked if she could give her mother some of the ideas I used for her shower. THAT made me feel good.
Monday morning I went to my sons home, and we spent most of the day, RE painting the nursery. See...we painted it a few weeks ago. My DIL picked the paint.With the first brush stroke, I told my son, she would NOT like the color she picked. PEPTO BISMOL PINK!! I suggested we waite, and let her see the paint on the ONE wall, and see if she really wanted us to continue...he said..." No, she picked it, we HAVE to paint ALL the walls with it. The color literally made me dizzy...but we continued. Once the DIL came home, she was almost in tears....she hated it! Her reply was to my son..." WHY did you do the whole room, if you knew the color was so terrible? ? LOL So, we repainted. I picked the colors this time, per my DIL request. We had to put 2 coats of KILZ primer over the pepto color just to cover. Then we painted with a very light pink. There will be a 3 inch chair rail, painted white and I will use the pepto color to paint words along the rail. MILES OF SMILES..... WIGGLES AND GIGGLES. Still need to come up with a few more phrases. Then the bottom half of the room, we will pinstripe with a pale green, and a very few stripes of hunter green. The window and door trims will be white....and there will be Whinnie the Poo Murals on the wall near the crib. Hopeing it turns out good, because she gave me free range on the deco. She said she likes my judgement, and trusts it will be very pretty. Did I tell you how much I LOVE my DIL!??
So next week we will tape and paint the bottom half. Another FULL day of painting. My poor back!! LOL I am enjoying this tho.
This weekend is SUPPOSED to be NICE, almost 50's!!! MOST of the white stuff is gone, and we now have small lakes all over the property. I will be working on the extra pen we have, and getting it secure. I was contacted by a local rescue group, and they asked me to foster pot belly pigs. Of course I said yes, so I need to get ready for them. This weekend should be just what I need to get my lazy bum outside and working. Hubby will be working in the shop most of the weekend...finishing building his workbench. 14 ft long, with a slide out for the table saw. I am excited to see this project finished. He is also going to build a table that he can "ride" the lawn tractors up on, so working on them will be MUCH easier than crawling around on the floor. Since I do all the blade sharpening, this will be a blessing!!
