Casper is a sweetheart! When I am in there with them, he leans on me, wanting lovins. If I am outside the fence, he jumps up, and tries to lay his head on my shoulder. I just love that goat!

I hope my new boy is like that too. I really didn't want a wether but of course I went and met him and now I can't let him be meat while I've got his sister capering around my backyard. :/

I know what you mean about not wanting a wether...aka "hay burner" But they sure do have great personalities. At least these 3 do. Very loveing. I can't waite to see pics!!

I have a "perpetual" onion bed in my garden. I know I am not rotating my veg ... SHAME ON ME! Actually it works great.

Every year I harvest the best onions and leave the substandard ones in the bed to over winter. In the spring I go back to these onions that are now beginning to multiply, separate them and re-plant the new multiples. Also every year I plant new onion starts and sets enough to fill up the bed in a basic square foot gardening type of pattern.

When all of that is done I weed the bed thoroughly, sprinkle on a good bit of bone meal and mulch away with a nice deep layer of wood shavings. I usually use new shavings, but occasionally I add a bit of fresh out of the coop shavings as a side dressing on the top for some additional nitrogen. I prefer the shavings over straw as it conforms more nicely around the onions and keeps out more weeds. I MAY have to weed another time or two or add a few more shavings, but this usually holds the bed and keeps it weed free for a whole summer.

Hey FF, thanks for that info. I will be cleaning the coops this weekend...so I can steal a little of those dirty shaveings from my compost....and put them around the onions. Sounds like you have a great system for your onion bed. Way to go!

I am going to be getting my garden in this weekend I hope as the last two weekends I have spent in TN taking care of business.

It will be some sense of normal in my life that has been missing for 6 weeks now. There has been a fact that has come to light as to why all this happened, and in the eyes of life, this didn't need to happen.

I have been trying very hard to stay positive as much as I can and be strong while also grieving as well. I have been staying level headed and handling my fathers estate with respect. I am a little mad at dad as he could of had his affairs more in order. With a sudden death like theirs, I can understand how they are out of order.

Continue to pray for us and please pray for my sisters mental health as she is having such a hard time with this. The tears are here and there, the anger is with me between times of tears.

I am careful to make sure I don't fall into a state of depression and decided to seek professional help to help me deal with this as well as look out for my own mental health.

I miss you guys and hope I will be back soon once things get a little more stable in all this.

We're thinking maybe we can train him to carrier packs or maybe pull a cart eventually. He was friendlier than the doeling when we meet them.
It was hotter than blazes here too yesterday.

FF, I was thinking about the pine shaveings. NORMALLY...when we clean out the coops...we throw it all in thier yards. 2 reasons. 1 they scratch it around and keep it turned. 2, once it dries out well...It is like...well...composted...and great for the garden. So this weekend before I clean out the coops, I will scrape thier yards...I bet I can get at LEAST 2 truckloads out of there. Dark brown....broken down..mulch!!! I will use THAT in the garden.

MP....you and your family are still in my prayers....I pray that you get the help you need....and are able to move on. What you and your family have been through is...well, just AWFULL! There are no real words to describe it. Its worse than a tradgedy. I will say an extra prayer for your sister....let her know she is in my prayers as well.
We dont have the garden in yet here either. Hopeing to get it in this weekend. Going to try to get dirt moved tomorrow....so I can plant.

ok, so the other day, hubby was in the shop when he yelled for me to come. I go in there to see this!!

It was 3 inches from front to back...or I should say...still IS. We didnt kill it...I was too scared! I think I peed a little. :/ Then we saw one IN THE HOUSE!!! WHAT?? Anyone know what species this is...and if they are harmfull!??? Well, I KNOW they are harmfull..I about had a heart attack when I saw the one in the house. As big as they are, what do they eat?? BABY CHICKS!???
ETA: The one in the house didnt fare as well as the ont outside. It was on MY turf!! It was on the ceiling...right above hubby in his chair. I convinced hubby that the spider was sitting there, contemplating just the right time to jump on him and make his attack.
