Oh my goodness. What a lot of work you do. Sheesh - makes me think I'm a wimp. And I'm clumsy too. I can easily trip over nothing. Broke the end of one of my toes over a week ago. A big old plastic container of flour fell from a top shelf onto my 4th toe. Still hurts. Welcome to our klutz klub!

I just stepped on a pitchfork myself a few weeks ago....remember? Don't hurt yourself today!

I made a cake this morning and didn't burn myself puttting it in or getting it out of the oven! It's a miracle

So, I got the two posts in, for the gate....thats all I got done today. My son came over...and we chatted for a bit. Then a storm came in....WOW what a storm!!! Im not sure yet how much rain we got, but the lightening hits..WOW! Our front thicket got hit...scared the chickens they all came running out of thier coops into the rain. Scared the CRAPOLA out me!!!! I have yet to go look at the damages. Then, a few minutes later, we was hit again...somewhere behind the house this time. Jeesh! I called hubby, he said..." Its because you have a magnetic personality" Yeah....ok. :/
So I am headed out to assess the damages. At least we got some rain!

Not alot going on here lately. This darned heat is keeping me inside more and more. I was out by the old hog pen, which is sadly sitting vacant this year...and the weeds are at least 3 ft tall in there. Its a scary place to walk past, just thinking of the snakes, mice, spiders...etc. that are living and thriving in there. Thats when I noticed a few tomato plants growing in there. So, of course, I head in....unarmed. I just had to investigate these tomato plants. There were at least 2 tomatos that had ripened...but the chickens got to them. :/ So, I started pulling weeds....steaking up the tomato plants...all total I think there are about 20 plants. They are doing better than the ones I planted in the garden...so I am thinking I will get some seeds from them later, and use them for next year. I mean, if these plants can come up, grow well, and produce....in a mostly shady spot with NO care at all...no weeding, no watering, no fertilizing....they HAVE to be a good strong plant. So...IF I can keep the chickens out of there, I will try to get a gew ripe tomatos..and let them dry for seed.
I still have not been able to get to that darned fence! I look at it...start sweating..and walk away. Since its mostly in the sun..I just can't make myself stand out there in this heat and get it finished.
I think the heat is finally getting to me. The last 2 or 3 days...I have been feeling a little "off" kilter. The back of my neck and shoulders feeling really tight and tense, a little bit of indegestion, and the headache...WOW! I am drinking lots of water, apparently not enough. And I feel so sluggish. This heat has GOT to break soon...I hope.
I was able to get a few Brussels sprouts picked, blanched, and in the freezer. So far enough for 4 meals. This is our first year growing them. I only put in 6 plants....next year, I am thinking I will put in a few dozen. We really LOVE them.
Im headed out to try to get that fence going..before it gets too hot. Another day with "excessive heat warnings" Hope everyone has a good weekend....stay cool!!!!

make sure you don't drink just water... get something with electrolytes. No caffeine, low sugar. Wetting / freezing a cloth and holding it on your neck and head will help a little as well. Light colored, loose fitting / light weight clothes.... and sunscreen
We had bouts of 116* heat indices ourselves and you have to reach a point where the weather wins sometimes.

AL, yup, I am drinking powerade, water, iced T, Lemonade.....and of course, my coffee. I know, coffee is NOT good for me when its hot out...however....I am NOT good to people without my coffee!
I mowed the dogs yard this morning. The grass was a little wet still, but needed to get it finished before the heat index slapped me in the face. Animal chores are finished...for now..and I am trying to get laundry hung out. I dont mind doing laundry...I have to "waite on the washer" therefore I get computer time...in the AC!

I think saving those tomato seeds is an AWESOME idea!! I had a little personal strain of tomatoes going for several years and then I got lazy and lost it. BAD ME! Mine were the same way. Growing volunteer in the darndest spots. They had small tomatoes but man were they good! Very sweet and plentiful. I am pretty sure they were a cross between some of my Sweet 100 cherries and a heritage tomato that I was growing as they had pinkish skins.

If you can get a good volunteer like that it is most certainly perfectly suited to your particular growing conditions.
