So, I sneak outside this morning to feed animals. I say sneak, because I was ready for the worst...ice....or so I thought. :/ I step out to the front porch...its just wet..no ice...Hmmm, this is a good thing. Sidewalk is just wet...altho there is ice hanging from the mirrow of the trucks and some of the trees....all looks well. So, with "confidence" I head down the sidewalk. Only a fool has confidence on the ice. Just as I get to the end of the walk way, to the top of the 3 little steps....whooops! Down I go...down the steps, on my hip. O U C H! So I sit there for a few minutes...trying to figure out of anythin is broken...nope, just sore and bruised..and a pulled muscle in my thigh. DANG! I slowly get up, a little LESS confidence...and start across the driveway. Now, I just have to get about 6 ft across the gravel, to the grass...and I will be OK...right? Ohhhhhh, no. The gravel is a skateing rink, and me without skates. Slipping and slideing...I finally make it across the drive to the grassy area. Whew..I hope no one was out there watching. Og course the ducks were, and I swear they were laughing at me...which set of the turkeys to laughing...and in my mind I am planning Turkey sandwiches and roast duck! Finally made it the 300 or so feet to the gate. It is ice covered, and frozen solid! I pried and prayed for the ice to release its grip...no such luck. So I cussed and kicked....THAT worked! Got all the barn animals fed and hayed...now to make the treck to the chickens and those laughing ducks and turkeys. Once I get there....I scolded the ducks, and told them thier punishment for laughing at me was they get fed last! HA! I DO have the upper hand there! Everyone fed...watered....I found one of my BR hens sprawled out on the floor. She can't stand...legs out behind her. Dang! Glad I have some eggs ready for the bator. My BR are my favorites, and I am now down to 5 hens. :/ I am safely back inside...fire going....BBQ pork in the pot...and drinking my coffee. Gonna go hit the shower before we get the next round of ice, and lose power.
