JUSTUSNAK...Summer coming to an end!?

What is your theory of how they do it?
Well, I think it is like a humans internal clock. Like, I wake up at 7 am, almost every day...sick or not...doesn't matter. They get used to the routine...and like with my Golden, he was happy to see the kids all come home, so it was a good thing to remember. :idunno

I've also heard of dogs and cats having strange internal "homing devices" like in that book/movie. I read a book once that had interesting theories about all this. Called Dogs that Know When Their Owners are Coming Home. I read it because we have a dog like that. I don't know if the author explains it very well, but he does have theories about the internal clock, something to do with the magnetic pull of polar north?

I know when we do pony rides, Honey really starts to drag her feet when an hour is almost up. And, if I've only been riding Misty for riding lessons, then go on a trail ride, she'll try to turn around and go back to the trailer after I've been riding for about 45 minutes.

Horses always seem to know the correct direction to the barn and oats, don't they? :lau

I know now that hubby is changing shifts almost every week, my poor dogs are very edgy. Like they are all messed up inside or something. I really feel bad for them. They are not sleeping well, and seem to be "grumpy".
The weather is trying to let up a bit for today. Only low 90's, and on and off clouds. Not too bad out there really....except for the humidity. I made 2 pans of peach cobbler this morning. One for us, one for the guys at hubby's work.
I was up early to let the ducks out since the predator came back again last night for another duck dinner everyone was in lock down. :somad I let the ducks out, then went to the coop's. I opened the door, and looked in....and all the chickens were still on the roosts! So, I SCREAMED, COCKADOODLEDOO!!!!!!!:lau Feathers went flying!! It just gave me a little bit of pleasure to wake THEM up this morning. :gig Opened all the doors, and then the roosters all started crowing..I giggled and looked at them all and said. HA, Too late suckers! IM UP! After everyone was settled for the morning, I headed to the barn...fed the sheep and pigs, and Fred, the little black pygmy goat, then gathered up suzie for her milking. She was so good this morning. What a relief. Got a full quart and a half!!! What a good girl. :love
Got the milk put up and the cobblers made, and cleaned the kitchen. Made supper, pork chops, mac N cheese and green beans...then headed outside to clean and fill the 4 pools for the ducks. Filled the "rain barrels" watered a little on the garden, and fixed the duck pen so I can hopefully keep them safe. I still have the 2 white ones in the garage...until she is healed and I don't have to worry about flies getting to her. Now, its rest time. Maybe a nap?? Sounds good to me! I still have to move the turkey poults to the brooder, and do the milking later...but that's about it. Im worn out. I think I might zone in front of the TV for a few hours, until it cools down some more.

OK, I got this little guy the other day with the load of chickens and ducks, from ACC. This is a mallard drake....right???

I noticed they clipped his wings...so I am thinking Mallard...he is pretty!

How big is it? Looks like a mallard, but it could also be a rouen. Mallards are only around 4 or 5 lbs.

He is quite small. Just a wee bit smaller than my Khaki Kambells.
