Tonight we are having 50 mph winds!
Had a great visit today with Becca's mom and QA & E.
QA had a hard time telling me that Sam died the other day. It appears Sam was in the habit of eating with Chase and Boss, their cows, and Sam lost the last battle for stealing their feed. He had good life, was a spoiled roo, had 15 ladies to himself for the past year (we had more hens before that). So I've told QA not to feel too badly about it. E feels bad because Sam has been keeping him company about their farmyard. Hugs to you both.

Got back into town in time for dh to make it to his Tuesday night men's church group meeting. When we finally got home, we had leftover Brown Rice Cranberry Salad for dinner. I had fruit for dessert, and dh had pumpkin-cinnamon ice cream.

Becca, Titan was stuck in the back of QAs vehicle, since only her dh can open it apparently. 
So we opened one of the back doors, so your mom could meet Titan.
I think our gentle giant passed the "dog test". I know his size intimidates most people when they first see him. And since he was in the back of QA's vehicle, he was at our head level. It could have been a bad situation if he werent such a calm animal.

Mid 40s this morning and raining, with winds at 35 mph. DH is working today. I am making bread. Since the weather is chilly and damp, I am thinking of making beef pot pies for dinner, to go into the oven after the bread is done baking. I also have some project cards to do today.
Right now, I just need more hot coffee. 
ETA: At 11:30, we have reached our high temp today of 48. With the wind, the temp is really 35!

I talked about dinner on the Whats For Dinner thread. I have two recipes I use for beef pot pies. They both start with a beef stew. Here are the recipes I use.
Tonight Im making beef pot pie with Beef Stew Recipe #2 and Garlic Cobbler Topping.
Beef Stew Pot Pie Recipe 1
Make your favorite pie crust recipe for savory pie. Make enough for each pot pie to have a bottom and top crust. Put the bottom crust into pie pans and set aside. (Do not bake.)
On a large foil-covered baking sheet, large dice some veggies (potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, parsnips, turnips, rutabagas). Slice or mince garlic and add to veggies. Drizzle with some olive oil and roast until *just* tender.
Toss the beef cubes (uncooked) in seasoned (pepper, salt, paprika, savory) flour. Brown them in a little oil (then put meat into a bowl and set aside)Add broth or stock to the cooked beef/flour bits left in the pan, warm it up and deglaze the pan, scraping the bottom well to get the bits. Add some canned or frozen green beans and/or English peas.
Mix together the beef and veggies in the gravy. Add the beans and peas. Divide evenly between the pie pans.
Cover with the top crust. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.

Brown the beef stew in a Dutch oven, add the broth or stock, the veggies. Bake in 350 oven until veggies are done.
While stew is cooking, make
Garlic Cobbler Topping
2 c all purpose flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 well-beaten egg
1/4 c melted butter
2/3 c buttermilk, milk, or cream
1 to 4 tsp fresh rosemary or basil or parsley or thyme
1 tsp curry powder, optional
Combine in large bowl, stirring until soft dough is formed. Drops spoonfuls on top of stew. Bake at 425 for 20 to 25 minutes.
This topping can also be made as Garlic Dumplings by dropping spoonfuls of the dough into boiling stew or soup on top of the stove. Cover and cook for 15 minutes without removing the cover until time is up.
