keljonma's Front Porch - Settling in and adjusting

10/24/09

Foggy this morning and 53. The rain has stopped, but there is 50% change of rain in todays forecast. Our high temp is supposed to be 55. Heading home after dropping TR off at work, the sunrise was really gorgeous.

I am making the brown rice salad for the Beek meeting, and am taking a roast out of the freezer for dinner tomorrow.

I have to get TR from work after the Beek meeting. I may make some cinnamon raisin bread later today after we get home.

I have to make 3 or 4 gallons of soup for Wednesdays Lead the Way Caf, so I need to stop at church while Im in town for the Beek meeting and pick up a big soup pot. I havent decided what kind of soup to make yet; maybe veggie, since I have tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, onions, garlic, potatoes, celery, corn, peas, and parsnips here at home.

Sounds like perfect weather to be inside making soup and bread :)

I secretly wish that we had cold weather here...I know I say that now when out overnight temps are like 59 and days are 74....but the idea of weather changes appeals to me!

I really missed the seasonal changes when we were in the Houston area. The *idea* of warm weather in winter appeals to me, and it is kind of tweaky to wear shorts and have all the windows open on New Years Day.....but in reality, we left it to come back to NE Ohio. :P

Hey, Kel, my mom put in an order for a slice of that raisin bread. She has been looking for raisin bread that tastes "right." Whatever that means.

Becca, does your mom prefer raisins? no raisins? lots of cinnamon? little cinnamon? glazed top? plain top? Something like a cinnabon in a loaf?

Wow! Kel, you are going to share this recipe right? You had me at cinnabon in a loaf......:th

DD called tonight. They lost their home to a house fire at 6 this morning. Thank God, she and the grands are okay. The kids were sleeping in her bed with her and she was able to grab them quickly and get out. Our son-in-law (a x-country trucker) is in Washington and not scheduled to be home for a week. She and the grands are staying at her in-laws place for the time being. While she is sad that all the pictures, birth certificates are gone, she is counting her blessings that they got out safe.

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's house fire. That would be aweful to go through. I'm sure you'd like to be there for her. :hugs

Our prayers are with your daughter. I'm glad they all got out safe. :hugs
