I looked at fall/winter fashion trends and decided to knit a scarf. Knits are in, stripes are in, colorblock is in, mismatch is in, bright colors (especially lime) is in. Fun! I checked my yarn stash and found vintage virgin wool yarn in a couple greens, and I have a random bright pink merino wool to that will be perfect for finishing the edges. My coats are grey or turquoise, so it will be a fun contrast. And then I'll put it in a box and leave it for 30 years until it's back in style.

I haven't knit for a couple years because it's so time consuming, but I hope to find enough free time on the go. When I take DS6 to library storytime or violin lessons. During dentist appointments, etc. I can knit without looking, unless I make a mistake. I put this project on a circular needle to make it more portable.

Pics to come!

Please share your projects and progress pics!

My eldest is the knitter. A few years ago she made me a scarf based on the scarf used by Tom Baker (the fourth Doctor Who Doctor). It's like 10 feet long.

Her current project is a daily temperature afghan. A different color for specific Temps. Very cool

Maybe it was crocheted, now that I think about it

It's still a lot of work. I've seen hand made Tom Baker scarfs going for several hundred dollars.

He's the Doctor I grew up watching, too. I was upset that they didn't have him wearing the scarf when he was in Day of the Doctor (2013).

I have a few crocheted scarfs around here. Not sure where I put them last spring. 2 are mohair which is a bit of a pain to crochet. One I made a matching hat. I have some yarn I bought last year to make a shawl with. I need to get going on that.

I also like knitting 1 foot squares from scrap bits of leftover yarn from other projects. When you have enough of them, you can stitch them together into lovely afghans or scarves, or even sweaters (hint- fold a square into a tube and attach to make a sleeve). I use these to experiment with new stitch patterns that I run across too.

My grandmother worked as the head surgical nurse... way back... on the 30s.

She always kept a crochet hook and small ball of cord in her pocket. She crocheted (is that really the correct spelling?? I hate English) small round lace things. Each the same. Once she had a huge pile her mom sewed them together unto a very large bed spread. I think matching shams too.

We also have a hand-knit Dr. Who scarf. The first scarf version. Ours is made from all hand dyed and some hand spun yarns.

I will take a photo tomorrow.

Oh... I had some photos online..

The beloved fish hat... it eats your brain. It is made from scraps left over from the Dr. Who scarf.
