I have a trio left out of 6. I call them the Looney Goonies. They roost on the ground or up in a big pine tree. Everything said, applies. They are DUMB, but enchanting. They usually don’t give me the time of day, but they will come beg for BOSS at the bird feeder. They stay around the Sheep barn, pop through the cow panels into pasture 1, pasture 3 and our yard. I want another flock for the horse barn.

I think the secret to keeping them around is to keep them cooped until they are adults. They won’t come back to the coop, but they stay around. At least mine did. I let them out too soon and 2 took off. 1 got his head bit off. I found eggs, a neighbor incubated them and now he has 5. Maybe we can load up the area with guineas and some will survive. LOL

how do they compare to quail or bob whites?
As what? something to eat or as wild birds? Have never eaten a guinea, if I had plenty of them, I'd try one, but for now, they are worth more to me as entertainment.

Last night, right before dark, the guineas were at the gate waiting for me to open it. When I opened the gate, they ran away because I was too close to the gate. I had 2 dogs in that pasture, so I led them away from the gate, after much discussion, false starts and shallow thinking, the guineas finally came through the gate. This morning? Yup, they came through the one way cow panels and were in the yard.

I recommend guineas for ticks, bugs and loads of entertainment.

I previously had quail. A couple years ago DH wanted some and promised he'd take care of him. He forgot to water them one too many times so I processed them. Now that I have time - I want more and they will be taken care of!
