Where do you think?
Here;s some news in case you guy's are interested:

I just came back from abroad, and my parents let my garden go wild....

It was all weeds. literally. There was enough there to feed a herd of sheep. I pulled out many of them, but I have a lot of work ahead of me....

So here is a couple questions:

Do you trim your tomatoes? Should you? I have always let my tomatoes run wild, I'm just afraid they will grow so big they'll collapse their structure.

Are their heirloom tomatoes that don't get so scabby? Honestly, some of these just look plain disgusting. with gross liquid pouring out an everything....

Is it too late for me to plant a fall garden? zone 7a, I think my first frost is around halloween, but something tells me this'll be a warm year. I doubt I could do carrots, but I was thinking lettuce, spinach, peas, and possibly brassica's....I have never planted them in the fall before.

Not sure w/the brassicas, but I'm pretty sure you can plant at least peas and lettuce. I'm not sure on the spinach.

I'm zone 4 so have no useful advice on your fall garden, our first frosts are first week of September.

But tomatoes I know. If you pinch out the "suckers" between the main stem and the main branches (wherever there are three stems in one spot, pinch out the middle one) your plants will put less energy into growing plant and more energy into the fruit. Also, if you cut off the top of the main stem once your plants have set a lot of fruit, and stay on top of pinching out your suckers, the fruit will be even better off :)

Spinach, yes, chose an early maturing variety, and think about maybe some row cover to guard against frost.

You might be able to eke out some brassicas if you buy plants already started, but it may be close.

I planted kale for the first time this year and absolutely love it. It's flavor changes with a light frost.

You can also think about planting garlic now for next year's crop.

Not only do I pinch off the "suckers', I also pinch off the last three leaves on each branch. Letting plants run wild does produce a lot of fruit, but it's usually smaller and ripens randomly, plus the "bushy" tomatoes around here tend to encourage slugs.
