at one time i met that guy. back in the ages when we used to have gatherings of usenet/internet friends that would meet in different areas just to have fun, cook, talk in person and do touristy things.

the rise of f*b*k pretty much killed off those things for me as so many people left to go there instead and i decidedly and emphatically did not follow. :(

[later edit for context and now that i'm more awake] in the early days of my university life i came across usenet and while we could read it we could only post to the local groups that were not propagated to other sites for several years, then the Great Renaming happened in 1987 and our posts were then able to get out and roam the world.

because of the nature of usenet (decentralized and distributed) you weren't always sure you were getting a full feed but it was still ok no matter what. there was a service called dejanews which tried to archive the posts (but there really wasn't any sure thing involved as the messages were sometimes expired and deleted depending upon the retention policies of each site).

then some years later g*g*l bought the archives from dejanews and ruined them (g*g*l gropes yuck) where if i try i can sometimes find old posts in various usenet groups i posted to, but unfortunately they are not complete or very useful. a poem i wrote i tried to find and never could.

ok, that's enough rambling ... but i wrote a lot over the years and enjoyed it.
