A city girl (from Philly), worked in corporate america for years & wanted a life that had more substance. Bought this old farmhouse w/ 5 acres on the internet and moved on down to rural VA.

I'm learning to garden on a bigger scale, preserve food, make soap do crafts, raise poultry, light construction, yard work, fix stuff, etc.

A bit of a scavenger, I will take free/used stuff & try to make it pretty.
I try to only go to town once a week at the most and find living in the middle of nowhere a joy, especially since my social skills are awkward at best. After 4 years, I feel like I belong here now & wish I'd done this much sooner!

I rescue chickens and have a way with animals that I just don't seem to have with humans.

Current project: Someone gave me some gently used carpet and I've been installing as much as I can all over the house. It's warmer in here already!

Thanks! Of course I took the pic after I painted the roof & pressure washed the rest.:)
I haven't painted the back/upper part because it's new and insanely slippery.

In the woods with the critters
I lived in Virginny for 20 something years, and I was working to get back home to Pa where the deer and antelopes roam, so my real dad would say. I lived down in tidewater area, I thought about moving further north and stay in state, no place felt like home.

Very nice home, you oughta make you some chicken ladders and pay a couple high school aged boys to get up there and get that roof painted.

Welcome to the forum, lots of kind folks to help you out or things to read to help you get on in this beautiful world.

If you have 20 dollars to spare, might want to look at purchasing the book Country Wisdom and Know How.

It has all kinds of stuff for you to read on, from natural remedies, gardens, crafts and home repairs. It will help you along and the craft section is pretty fun. I have had mine for years, because I can't always remember things I read.
