Morel's Country Cottage Wow! What a weekend! Fires, chemical spills

I bought the BEST book the other day. It's called the Encyclopedia of Country Living - 10th Edtion - the origional manual for living off the land and doing it yourself...by Carla Emery This book is the best I have seen so far for everything self sufficient. From choosing and buying land to growing everything you need, to maple sugaring, livestock raising, fowl, food preservation and recipes, beekeeping...EVERYTHING all in one resource. I love this book! Every night I go to bed and devour more and more of it's contents.
I downloaded this book for free (yay!) off the internet. It is a very good book. Mine is the 9th edition though. I still have not convinced hubby about a goat yet. I think I should keep my trap shut this year, since I really need the addition on the barn. ahh, and bugs--the joy of the north!

I sprung for that book a few months ago it has sooooo much information. I still have not read everything in it. It's a great reference book.

Miss, how did you manage to download it??? That must have been one huge file??

Morel, I can't wait to see the peepers and congrats on the goats!!!!:)

Morel, isn't that the greatest book? I think my mom has almost all of her books, she said the day she died was one of the saddest days yet.

Awesome selection on chickens! Chanteclers!? Man those are some pretty chickens, can't wait to see pics.

I hope your goat endeavor goes well.

Carla Emery was a wonderful resource. I used to have the 4th edition - but gave that to dd when I got the 9th edition. Just a wonderful book.

Our head librarian recently mentioned they are ordering the 10th edition the next time they order books. :clap

Our library is where I first got a hold of this book, loved it so much I ordered one. I will try and take pics of the birds and the quilt today sometime...but it's sunny outside and I have tons of stuff to get done so who knows when I will get the time. I love the partridge chanteclers, they already have thier wing feathers in and I love the color pattern on them!
Off to the garden center to buy more vegie plants!

Okay I have REALLY had it with my neighbors dog! It killed two more of my chickens yesterday. I had them running loose around the pen because they have been eating eggs and if I left them in I didn't get any eggs at all. So I have been locking them into the feed shed at night and out during the day. I knew that dog would probably get them because she is ALWAYS here snooping around my coops and has killed many of my birds in the past three summers.
This summer I am NOT putting up with it anymore! I have talked to my neighbor in the past and he refuses to do anything to keep her contained on his own property. Our dog has an elctric fence so she stays home, and that dog comes and steals her bones and treats and eats them right on the other side of the electric range so she has to sit there and watch. Yesterday she did that very thing with one of my birds!!!
I'm going to kill that dog and get my neighbor to come and pick it up and dispose of it. Until i can get my hands on something that will kill her I have a paintball gun. I'm thinking if I freeze the paintballs and get a close enough range it might do the trick...oh I am P*ss*d!

Morel, so sorry about your birds. Dogs running loose use to be such a pain for me. Now I am known as the person that 'WILL" kill your dog. Personally I agree with you on the killing the dog and callig the neighbor to come get their dead dog out of the yard. But.... SSS will work better for you. Shoot, Shovel, Shutup. I had lived with that situation for years. Every dog that comes up missing is layed at my feet. And I don't have a problem with that. One dog was ran over on the highway and the owner called the law and told them I shot their dog. They were going to sue me until they were informed by the law that if I shot that dog I used a bazooka and it was seriously in doubt that I owned one of those.

Do the deed and be quite about it. When asked if you did it just simply answer the question with a question. My standard answer is "I don't know, was that your dog killing my chickens?"

The funniest part is I have NEVER shot a dog. I have shot at a few. And unfortunately missed. But to avoid a possible lawsuit just do the deed and keep quite.

Oh no...if i am going to shoot a dog, they will know it was ME! I'm not the type to hide behind anything. I have warned them more than once about this dog, and the neighbor so much as told me to "do what I have to do" but he expects me to get rid of and clean up...nope, he is going to clean up...and hurt a little. We are actually good friends and he is a softie. He is going to have a part in this because he already DOES by not keeping his dog in his own yard. HE can dig his own dogs grave
If i do it all he will simply go get himself another dog...he'll think twice about that idea if he gets to SEE what his neglect cost his dog
