I have had it since April and just recently built a coop. I have a nesting box inside the coop with wheat straw. Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on how old the bird was when you got it. If you got it as a day old chick, it should start laying soon.

Sometimes they do....but it is more likely you have a cockerel on your hands, and not an egg laying pullet. Can you post a picture?

Is it saying, "cock-a-doodle-doo" or "buk-buk-buk-bukkAW!!!?"

If it is very hot there, too, and if she is molting, that will push off her egg-laying a bit, too.

Sounds like she got it as a chick. If she is counting the month of April as the first month.

Could be about ready to lay...but the crowing is throwing me off!

Post a pic. I have been practicing the "Is this a rooster?" game over at BYC.

I have a duck that was hatched in April and I am waiting for her to start laying too. No doubt she is a girl though. Too mouthy to be a boy...LOL

Wifey, I always thought that girly ducks were much louder than the boys. Am I wrong or is it dependent on the breed?
Also, (since you are our resident Ducky expert) when I was a kid we had Mallards...I loved them. I never hear about anyone having them anymore even on BYC. What's the scoop are they not good?
