tomatoes, peppers, onions, bay leaf, basil, salt sugar, parsley italian seassoning, pepper, garlic. But it needs something--any ideas?

I have the meatballs made, but will add them when the sauce is right, but it's not!!! I will add a bit mor of verything until it tastes UGHH, it turned out last time

Oregano too- the Italian seasoning has some in it but not enough. I always use 2 bayleaves. And pull them out when finishing. I add thyme to everything.
Needs to cook long and slow so adding the basil towards the end is good. All this depends on the tomato too- are they really juicey, swwet, sour?
My mom always put a pinch of baking soda in too.
