I hope it works out.

Our house stood empty for a year before we moved in, and the water was crystal clear with no smell at all. This house is 30 years old. (built by my husbands family)

Yep, get that water test done....make it contingent on a home inspection....a good inspector will require a water test.

My aunt & uncle had a daughter who was my age so I used to sleep over a lot. Their house (where my mom was born, BTW), had AWFUL well water due to the iron content. I drank canned/bottled pop the entire time I stayed there; I couldn't even stand drinking orange juice made from their water. It gave me such a bad opinion of "well water" that I almost didn't buy my first house because it had a well. But the well water there (at my house in VT) & my house here in NC is/was fantastic! How they lived there for 50 years with that water I'll never know. :p
