Speaking of stink bugs...Once I had a yucca plant blooming and it was covered in them. Maybe you could plant it to keep the bugs away from your tomatoes. The only tomato pest I ever have to watch for is tomato hornworms.
 
Broody hen was apparently a figment of my imagination, lol. She's out with the gang and the eggs aren't slightly warm at all. I dunno, oh well. I don't need more chickens really. My husband is still having daily battles with our rooster. He still hasn't tried anything with the rest of us.
 
Don't mean to make you feel badly but, one chick hatched today! This is the nest that was "added to" by other hens, the 2nd hen went broody & they actually split the eggs :hu side by side! today I heard a ruckus and went to check on them, so TWO broody hens are growling and pecking....but I just knew I was hearing a chick AND there was the shell. We shall see how this works out.

Today made me remember why I want my farm. Only work a couple hrs this am, then done and off until Wed. Came home, finished fixing mower, mowed a few hrs., let goats into a very grown field of clover, vetch, plantain, dandelion and to die for Bermuda.....watched them peacefully grazing that...gave everyone cool water, checked on mares in lower pasture (where I put them this AM...fresh graze).....then found my chick. It's a nice day. :) I love my little farm! Work schedule & weather have been issues for past 6 wks. This next few days, I can relax and work my butt off at home. LOVE IT!

I'm working on a 3 yr plan to quit outside work all together:thumbsup
 
My rooster came at my head a couple of days ago, I threw up my hands. I go in his coop with a 4' long big stick, I clubbed him so hard, I thought I killed him. He sprawled out, his head was weaving and he made funny noises. I told him if he died, I wasn't going to bother cleaning his scrawny ass-I was going to throw him over the fence for coyotes. Would you believe after a few minutes, the bas$#@& got up and was ok?
 
Lol Bay yes I do believe it! The nastiest ones always come back! Mine waits til DH walks away and flies at him, sneak attack style!

I have a ton to do here too... So much! My husband feels stressed out that he has so much to do but gives me a hard time if I do it and don't do it "his way". So I stick to the things I can do well alone lol. In his defense I have tried to do fencing alone and it was really bad... And I can't build to save my life. I'll stick with planting, cleaning, upkeep jobs lol!
 
I used to have two hens that hung out together, laid eggs together and would hatch out two or three clutches of eggs on the same nest. The chicks just would run back and forth between them and they never fought between themselves. They would both fight off anything that got close to their babies. Double the trouble!
 
@Mini Horses that does sound like a wonderful day. I can't wait until I am on my place one day and will have space for animals too. Right now it's just chickens. Talking of which, did any more chicks hatch?
 
Quitting on the incubator today. It has been 3 days past the last due date.

My husband borrowed a leaf blower to clean up the yard and the dogs are having a complete freak out lol!

I've spent the better part of the past two days looking into goat nutrition. I want to get away from pre-mixed feeds because you don't really know what's in them.... But I'm driving myself nuts! Not much is agreed upon when it comes to goats!
 
I use steamed, flaked barley (Blue Seal makes), oats, alfalfa pellets...on milk stand. Plus hay for when they eat it all. Somewhere I have a list of values for different feeds, to get the nutrition needed. Will look for it later. It's a chart from a university or ag deptment.
