One thing that shows like this never address is the nuclear power plants... what would happen if there was a massive human population kill off and the power grid goes down? Wouldn't all the nuclear plants melt down?

Actually, if my memory serves me, this program touched briefly on the subject. It seems as though they mentioned something about the US having a certain number of nuclear plants, a certain number of workers capable of operating them, and how the situation might affect them.

haha..another one!! DH and I chose ton go without cable/telly when we moved to BFE SC last year, on this one Green Acre. Only, we are the other ones...I'm city, he's country.hillfarm said:crap, that channel and like two others are the only thing I miss about not having cable.

When I was working as a nurse I was invited to a 2 day conference on surviving a Pandemic. There were government leaders there, major business owners, hospital CEO's, doctors, nurses and the Red Cross. We began an exercise that coordinated the hospitals and the community. It really wasn't about surviving the pandemic as much as what steps to take during it.
We dealt with mass casualties and how a hospital can only hold so many bodies, how mortuaries will be overrun, how massive amounts of bodies would be transported and disease control. We dealt with enormous volumes of gunshot victims and stabbings from looters or crazies. We cordoned off whole sections of the city for quarantine areas. People would have to give up their homes or live in the off limits areas. It was truly eye opening and amazing as to the amount of infrastructure that had to be completely redesigned on a dime.
After 9/11 and then that conference I have been a huge proponent of readiness for everyone I know. Just one more reason self sufficiency is the key to survival.

There is a movie about a Pandemic of sorts. Its actually a dirty bomb. Its not gory or zombie like. It seems a bit more like how it would be if it was real. Its a bit slow, but it makes you think. What would I do if that happened near by. Also kind of makes you wonder about believing the ones in charge. Should you make your own plan and live with it. Or take the advice of the ones in charge, just maybe what they want you to do is the wrong thing. I just came across this movie a month or two ago. I had never heard about it, but I guess its been out for awhile.

To me it seems a bit low buget type. But its the idea of the movie, and what makes you think. That is what makes it good.
