I didn't know where to put this, so.....
I found some really old picture of my grandfather with his chickens. He died when I was very small, so I never knew him. I can remember my mother talking about how he loved animals (maybe that's where I got it from) and especially his chickens. I know it is black and white, but I wondered if yall could tell anything about what kind these were. My mother and aunts used to talk about having to run from some of the roosters because they would attack them. So now let me see if I can figure out how to get the pic here

This picture was taken back in a time when they were poor, and you didn't just take a picture of anything, so that just shows how special they were to him. I wish it was in color, but........and notice he is holding one. I thought they were pretty big chickens.

Gosh, I love old photos like that!! Did you notice the writing on the chimney?

I would have to say those are Rhode Island Reds. Just my little opinion.

They do look "sizeable" compared to your grandfather, however folks weren't so sizeable back then. :p My grandmother never reached 5 foot tall in her whole life. She was always about 90#'s too. (She was born in 1903.)

Some of those chickens look black in that photo. (Is that is the mean rooster eating out of his hand?)

Anyone with initials HWREN? If a child wrote it they sometimes write backwares so it could also be NERWH.
