oranges keep your vitamin C going in the winter. there was when i was a kid the idea of ordering a bushel of oranges or grapefruits from the south.

Those are great memories of your traditions.Christmas at my maternal grands was helping decorate the tree. They'd cut one out of the woods. Decorations were some collected balls, popcorn strung up and paper garlands. They had no electric so, no lights. Presents were rarely more than one per person. Of course there was a bag of hard candy and an apple or orange. What's with the oranges??? Seems they were the star item...prob because hard to come by -- we were in WV. Always a church potluck meal, often Christmas Eve.
Paternal grands were closer to town, had electric. Similar gift ideas. They made cookies usually. A big meal at home.
My mother always wanted to cook a big meal for Christmas day. Ham! Yep, you were gonna have ham. Shed bake pies, cake, seldom cookies. I'm an only child, so things were quiet. Plus dad was Navy, so some years not home. It's why we often went to grandparents when he was. They live about 30-40 miles apart but 500 from us.
Really no "traditions" of great memory
