mine is 15 years old and only 1 time did it conk out----and it was a little $5 part, but it cost $60 for the repairman......well worth every darn penny of that $60
What brand is yours?

If all else fails, find an old radiator and a garden hose, and make a swamp cooler.
You can water the garden and animals with the run off.

We have ceiling fans throughout the house, and I can clean house in my bikini if I have to :lau It's gonna be miserable otherwise :/ Cold shower tonight for sure. I have no clue about where to find an old radiator :hu

The AC works here, and with the kids gone, we have three empty bedrooms!!!

You can stay dressed :hide

:gig That's a long haul brother for some cold air, but thanks for the offer :)

its a Trane

there is 'almost' nothing in an AC unit actually...very little to repair actually....so your fix could be very reasonable.

I'm in CO so I survive without AC, but I feel for you, being hot and humid :( No thoughts on it, just sympathy.

Here is a little secret I learned growing up in Kansas. Take a very hot shower when its super hot. I kid you not, you will feel very refreshed and cooler then a cold shower will leave.

Do a search for 'trouble shooting Trane model # ______'

There's probably some places that will give you some tips. May or may not be an easy fix.

Our heat pump fan motor shot craps a couple weeks ago, so I know what you're going through. From what I read about ours, the motor was going to be around $40, supposedly not bad to repair, BUT the cautions of needing to know where all the hot wires, etc were was enough for DH to say he wouldn't risk it. In the end, the bill was $176 for two trips out here and the motor was under warranty.

Anyone around there have a window a/c that you can use? That and some strategically placed fans can keep your house reasonably cool. That's all we had the first year we lived here.

Do you know any repair people that you could barter with rather than paying cash?

Ugg... no ac is not fun.
