While working with a language delayed 9th grader on her vocabulary today I asked her if she remembered what a person who assists students crossing the street near a school was called. Crossing guard was one of the terms we discussed a few weeks ago. She did not come up with crossing guard however. She looked me straight in the eye and in all innocence asked, "A street walker?"
And I'm not supposed to laugh???? No, I didn't add street walker to her list of new vocabulary and fill her in as to what the correct definition is.

Poor thing!
Given the reputation of our town, I should be thrilled that she's that naive I suppose!

Just have to hope that she gets it figured out properly and safely.

I posted this in my journal thread, then I remembered I had started this one!
I was working with two of my 3rd grade boys today. We were working on comparing and contrasting Walmart and Stop and Shop. One of the boys pointed out that both stores have a pharmacy. The other boy replied "That's where the vegetables must come from." As in "farm-acy".
