I like pawn shops, not for selling but for buying, expecially the tool isle
I needed a new power drill. Why spend big bucks on new when all make and models are made in China anyways? So off to the pawn shop and I found a old cast aluminum drill that was made in America for $15.00 (score).
While I was there I went over to the musical instruments section. Here are 3 youngsters looking at guitars and amps. I seen a bass hanging on the wall that caught my eye and asked the girl that was with there with two guys if she would please reach up and hand me the bass, because she was standing right in front of it and I couldn't get it myself. She reached up and handed it to me and asked me at the same time if I played bass. I said I used to but not so much anymore. I liked the bass so I grabbed a chord and pugged it into a amplifier.
After tuning it up I played a little old pink floyd and the girl who's name is Tina was amazed I knew a few pink floyd songs. She is pretty young and I was amazed she even knew of pink floyd -:lol Well after a little chit chat all three wanted me to come over and jam with them. I laughed... I'm old, you all are young, you sure you want some old dude playing bass with you guys? Sure they said why not?
After a little more chit chat come to find out Mark plays the drums, Tom plays the rhythm guitar and keyboards and sings and Tina is their lead guitar player but they have no bass player and have been looking long time for someone.
So after even more chit chat I ended up with all their cell numbers, & a CD chalk full of songs they play, with a promise I would listen and write some bass lines for their songs (if I like them). The CD they gave me was recorded and mixed very well, but not one song has any bass at all. I listened to their CD on the ride home in my pickup truck. Although the music they play is very heavy psychedelic rock,
full of effects and progressive (expecially in tempo) starting slow and building in speed. I heard no singing but whispering through delay (echo) effect and I really liked it!
Anyways I've been in group text with them and over the next week or so I'm going to put some bass lines to their songs. I highly doubt I'll gig with these youngsters, but I did promise them if they like the bass lines I put to their songs. I will teach someone they find to play bass with them my bass lines and they can have the bass lines free and clear.
Tina clearly is very well studied, on lead guitar and has a freaky familiar pink floyd crossed with Jimi hendrix style.
Anyways... It seems I always find something to keep me busy. This is a good thing I guess. If I stay busy, I stay out of trouble - that's what my wife's says
I'll share these songs once I dub in bass lines and let you all have a listen and comment.
