What kinds of pictures are you looking for? Animals, scenery, nature...

Anything goes, as long as it's family friendly. Here are the criteria.

Your Submissions MUST:
  • Be an image you took & own the rights to
  • Be a sharp, clean, picture that's at least 800 pixels wide
  • Include a short sentence about your picture (ie. Prize Winning Pickled Beets)
  • We prefer "landscape" (sideways) photos, but we'll accept really awesome"portrait"(tall) pictures... we just may need to crop them

Our newest little barn kitty, Ruffles(he's a boy, but grandgirl #1 insisted he should be called Ruffles). He's from our latest and hopefully last litter of kittens, the rest having found good homes already. He's a keeper. Note the extra toes on his feet. His mom has been bringing him a wide variety of wild game to eat and he's just starting to venture out of the safety of the homestead and into the fringe of the woods around the meadow in search of his own hot meals. My daughter says he's polydactyl. It's a genetic mutation that causes them to have too many toes. You don't live by a nuclear waste dump do you? Just kidding...

I keep coming back and admiring him, I kind of wished he were mine, but he's yours. If you happen to have anymore polydactyl kittens, I might be interested in one of each sex, I like unusual animals and would take good care of them.

We've got an exciting new system and process for our Picture Of The Week (POW), so we need your submissions!!!

Your Submissions MUST:
  • Be an image you took & own the rights to
  • Be a sharp, clean, picture that's at least 800 pixels wide
  • Include a short sentence about your picture (ie. Prize Winning Pickled Beets)
  • We prefer "landscape" (sideways) photos, but we'll accept really awesome"portrait"(tall) pictures... we just may need to crop them
Submit your POW by simply replying to this thread and attaching an image :)

We don't have a strict process or time-frame for how/when the POWs are posted, but in general they will be posted to the homepage weekly, and clicking on the POW will bring you to the post within this thread where the image was submitted.

Wow POW is pretty legit now or is that POW Wow. Whatever it is, it's legit.

Not nuclear but just plain ol' WV inbreeding. :D His father is likely a son of his mother's brother. Does that make sense? His grandfather has the gene for this mutation, though he doesn't have polydactyl, he has a weird displacement of the 1st toe that makes it look like he has thumbs. Most of his offspring with his sister as his mate also has this trait and some have an extra toe in the gap of that spacing.

Now, it's commonly thought that polydactyl cats also have the mutation for a bob tail but none of his offspring have such a thing.

You'd love this kitten....he's kind of stolen my heart a bit. He's adventurous and funny, pretends he wants to play with you but shies away if you advance towards him. He can't be loved into purring but he'll dart into the house if he gets a chance, just to nose around. He looks for me and walks out to greet me, but doesn't really want me to pick him up....then he'll flop down in front of a sheep like he wants her to pet his belly. He's a real trip!

He's half the size of his mother and is still nursing, so he's fat as a tick. He stalks the chickens but when they notice he acts all nonchalant like he's not up to anything.

Can't wait to see what kind of story he writes, as it's starting out really cute.

I wish I had known you wanted some Poly kitties....I gave three of his siblings to a young girl who is starting a cat rescue and didn't have any cats to rescue at the time. One of those had an extra toe on each front paw, though not quite as perfectly placed as Ruffle's are. Her extra toes were tiny with just a claw showing.

Getting Molly fixed, hopefully this week, if she's not bred back....she looks a little fluffy but she always looks that way in the winter time. Could be she's preggers again, so we'll have to see what comes out this time. THEN we'll get her fixed as quickly as possible.

I can't stop admiring him, as he's just that beautiful....that color and fur texture is much like a Rex rabbit. Just luxurious to see and touch.

You do have yourself quite the Tom there, he sure is beautiful. Hid picture deserves to be on a calendar, if SS ever publishes one.

My Tom hitched a ride into town to be a city slicker. My female cat died of old age. So I'm catless at the moment.

No one should be catless. 😀 Your dogs need some spice in their lives!
