i had to look that up on the map. quite an interesting setup. i'm not sure if that was a human made sort of thing or a natural feature of the area? at this point it's probably both...
Natural. Think of it like a sand bar. But yes, the big boulder/rocks lined along one part of the edge were put there by man... to keep waves from messing up the road.

i wonder if it was a spot where a glacier ended and kept dropping a lot of stuff to form that sandbar like that...

Hummm... I don't think so... just from the way the land above it is shaped.

The spit is in a bay, and there are a bunch of rivers that enter the bay. So I always thought that it was just natural deposit from the water currents.

However.... I don't remember reading on how it was formed! It has been a long time since I did that kind of stuff with my kids.

Very interesting thoughts!
