Our lilacs started blooming too... love them. Most of the flowers I grow have a lot of fragrance. I just planted some Stargazer lilies under our living room window; I'm looking forward to when they bloom.

I love lilacs that's the one thing I miss the most about the house I grew up in we had a hedge separating our yard from Main Street. It was my favorite place to hang out and read a book with my squirrels in my dog.

squirrels IN your dog? Good hunter, eh?

A friend of mine told me a story about her old neighborhood-- one of the houses had a 50 year old lilac hedge along one side of the house. In spring the whole area smelled of lilac; everyone loved it. Well, the house sold and a new couple moved in during the fall. My friend was out walking and to her dismay she saw they were pulling out the entire hedge. She stopped to speak to the woman, asking her "Why did you pull out that hedge?" The reply? "Well, I've always wanted lilacs, and I thought this was a good spot for them..."

These lilacs were starts from my great aunt. She got them from my great grandmother. Great grandma got the start back in the 40s from one of her kid's friend's family. It was a small town back then.

I think my great aunt is the only one out in the country who still has a hedgerow of lilacs still.
