I dunno. Is it the longer haired buns that are having issues? If so, I'd guess heat is probably a major factor. Have you tried putting ice bottles in the cages? Usually we have to this time of year. I freeze 2 liters and put one in each cage with my buns. I haven't started yet, but mine are in a very very cool area of the yard in the shade. Aren't your hutches in the sun for the majority of the day?

not realy it gets morning sun then shade most of the rest of the day, anything over 85 in the sun they get ice bottles. this little guy is a fuzzy but the doe that i lost the other day was a newzealand so not particularly heavy coated

all my buns are doing fine and the other 3 (a cali and 2 hollands) that came in with this batch are also seemingly fine. running around, eating ect.

given the timing i cant even be sure that the nz doe and this little fuzzy guy are the same issue...she whent down ALOT quicker she was fine one morning, lethargic the next and dead by the afternoon...she was twice the size of this guy too...
this guy is fighting whatever it is hes not been "normal" since tuesday, and hes tiny compaered to the NZ doe so i would have thought he'd have surcummbed quicker if it were related

symptoms are similar, no outward sign of ilness, fine and dandy then suddenly "too calm" but she whent from fine to too calm to dead in the space of 12 hours...hes been "too calm" for 3 days.
my vet says the next step would be xrays to check for a blockage to the tune of $45 a sheet and even then theres not much that can be done (fluids and a laxitive if it is, surgery is useless as most rabbits wont survive gastro surgery.)
if its not GI she says she hasnt a clue what it could be given theres seemingly no other symptoms.

so general prognosis on the vets terms is its probably GI, if hes still with us tomorrow fluids and some mineral oil and hope for the best but given ow tiny he is...and being theres no other gi symptoms...shes as confused as i am lol.

That's just really weird. I hope he survives though, and this is the end of the bunny troubles I know you have a lot invested in these guys for them all to just start crapping out like that with no way to control it Sucks pretty bad for the bunnies too.

least if i could ASK him what was wrong...

hes so super cute too, beautiful head and ears, would make a STUNNIGN stud buck...but gotta keep him alive first.

dont you just love it when people respond to a listing and have obviously not read a word of it.

put an add up for the baby buns, location and price in the title and in the listing along with available rabbits, their age, sexs and colors and pics...

get an email from someone interested in "white ones with red eyes" told the person i only had what was on the listing right now and that the little hmi marked babies are mostly white with red eyes...
then he asks location...
then another email asking price...
its ALL in the listing, its in the title of the email you sent too duh...

then they complain because you tell them the price and "oh thats too expensive i was looking for something under $5"

*blink blink* ok, well thats not one of these bunnies, so why bother responding to the add?

well some good news...
I figured no harm in trying this morning and offered Pip, my fading fuzzy lop some clover, i figure hey bunny crack if nothing else...
well he wanst interested in the clover....BUT he was interested in licking the dew OFF the clover.
filled a small bowl with water put him in front of it and he drank! and in the past 30 minutes hes been more active than ive seen him in days!
ive noticed some of the bottles are harder to operate than others some of the little balls move freely when your touch it...others you have to give a it of a push...
his particular waterbottle is one that needs a bit of a push, but id SEEN him drinking so i didnt even think about it...
but when he whent after the dew and seemed to immediatly perk up...
I think hes probably just so small he was having a hard time with the bottle and pretty much gave up on drinking all together.
so right now hes got his bottle AND a bowl of water, ill continue to provide him a bowl of water until hes older then try and wean him back onto the bottle (i prefer bottles over crocks) but replace his with an easier flow valve.
least...heres to HOPING that was the issue and that now he'llmake a full recovery. hes got 1 ear up rihgt now which while ear control is not a great thing in lops it means hes much more alert and aware right now than he has been, and he was actually hopping around and even cleaned his face!

in other news, Lokie my linni keet is sitting on 3 eggs right now *more fingers crossed* she hasnt smashed or eaten any of them and is keeping cricket OUT of the box so im betting it was cricket that squished em.
Im going to try and candle them, dont knwo if my flashlight is strong enough, but thats a plan for later today

i also need goat and rabbit food at some point in the next couple of days so today may end up taking a trip to to town for the co-op

and im hoping to get some replies to emails about the baby bunnies who can go home as of today/this weekend, especially since i realy need that money right now to buy rabbit food LOL.

but yeah thats all i got

SO happy you figured out his situation. Water...I just got started with my rabbits....I have a black buck and an albino doe. They are just under a year old...so not together ... yet!
I noticed this morning that their water bottles are still full....I need to go check on THAT situation in a bit. Glad I stopped in to read...THANKS! I love how we can all learn from each other here....im off to check water bottles now!

Dang! I have a few buns who won't drink out of a bottle either. I bet that's what it was, wish we'd thought of that sooner! Glad you may have it figured out!!!!!

ive never had a bunny refuse the bottle and having "seen him drink" it just didnt even occur to me that despite seeing him drink he hadnt drank neer as much as the 2 holland girls that are about the same size/age
yay for morning dew and clover i think.

ill still be watching him, he could still go back down hill depending on if im right or not on the water situation, but deifnatly for everyone with bunnies check those bottles regularly, bunnies need alot of fluid comparitive to body size to keep their systems working, they would USUALLY get most of it from eating high moisture foods (greens) but i havent given any of the new buns greens because when there not used to them they can cause tummy upsets and these 3 little lops are only 4-5 weeks old
if the water level doesnt seem to be going down offer a bowl as well, especially when hot. lesson learned on that one.
guess thats the risk of bringing in new lines too, you can never be entirely sure WHAT the bun is used to or how there oging to react to the change ect.

I just hope my blonde-ness hasnt done him any long term harm and he bounces back now, and that the water siturtion was indeed the cause and not something mysterious.

i dont belive the water bottle situation was what send fiver down, but it might have contributed if she was already ill, she crashed after 2 very HOT days so if she also wasnt drinking, the stress and heat probably finnished up a sensitive system.

glad this experience can also help others too

my new motto...when in doubt...Clover fixes everything...lol, if it wasnt for the ew on the clover...i wouldnt have even thought about water issues.
