i just hope Daizy does ok overnight...shes in a VERY makeshift shelter right now, its literally an old plastic dog playpen with a wire top and an old tarp draped over it...watertight it is not but the space is long enough that there are plenty of spaces she can lay that wouldnt be in the rain... and i bedded her down with a good pile of hay, but its rainy and chilly an im such a worry wart.

and the stupid guineas would NOT go to bed tongiht...uually i toss in the food and they al run in...tonight all but 1 ran in...then they ate then 1 came out and te oe that hadnt eaten yet ran in...its like they were being inteligent or something...DAMNED BIRDS lol. so now they are roosting in the pecan tree nxt to the house...out..in the rain...on anice its supposed to get down to under 40 degrees...there either REALY smart (to play "hey she wont lock it if one of us is out") or REALY stupid to want to sleep in a tree out in the rain...
smartests DUMB birds ever!

tomorrow im heading into jackson in the morning...going to stop in lowe and pay for the goats new house, i can wait a little on a storage unit so WBF can check on the one she knows about for me...
but i cant wait on the goat house especially now daizy joined the family and needs a houe while shes in quarentein, and E.s got to go into town on wednesday...ive got a coupon that will take care of the tax too but that runs out monday so i figure ill go in tomorrow, pay for it and have them hold it untill wednesday if possible...if not ill have to shell out for delivery.
i figure if they load it onto E.s truck, we can get it to my house, push it onto the grass and i can take it to the building spot peice by peice if i have to...i can put the walls up myself i think but will need some help with the roof. once the new house is built ill then take the pallet shack and move that into the soon to be orchard, then Daizy will have that as her shelter untill shes all clear to join the herd.

the pallet shed will EVENTUALLY become the pig house. but pigs arnt untill spring at the earliest...

so next week will be me building a new goat house...busy busy busy lol.

If you're getting from Lowe's go on Ebay and get a couple extra coupons for later use when you go to purchase the other. They sell them all the time on there, usually can get a 10-20% off coupon for about $2 shipped. It's worth it.

And ill deifnatly shop for coupons for my next one a good 20% off would be better than my current $25 off
someone told me some lowes accept competetors coupns too and i have a 20% off harbor freight one so im going to call this afternoon and see if theyll take it (anything to save me money right?!)

anywho.
up early this morning, dont know if it was worrying about Daizy or what but got up an hour early, got everyone sorted. she was having a bit of a screaming fit befor ei let her out, but she seemed to do fine over night, her feet were wet but otherwise she was dry but a ltitle cold.
spent about 15 mins just sitting with her, rubbed her down all over and she rested her head on my hsoulder for a few minutes...
i think shes going to come around prety dang quickly, shes very sweet/soft natured right now, dont know if thats her personality or if shes ust not feeling 100% and may turn into a total butt head once shes feeling better...
but shes eating this morning again and she even talked to me when i was petting her. she got bit by the fence this morning, he tie out is long enough that her nose can touch the hotline but she cant get close enough to run through and get stuck half way...i deifnatly need to move one of the coops down there this afternoon though, it was cold last night and being shes already under the weather i dont want the yuckies shes got which right now doesnt seem to be too much beyond a cold/respitory infection turning into pneumonia...so ill drag one down (im going out this morning so when we get back ill have B. help me if he will) and get it bedded dow with plenty of hay to snuggle into.

this afternoon shell also get re-medicated and dusted with Python Dust for the sucking lice and ill dump a bunch of DE in the coop too to help get rid of those nasties draining her go-juice.
i know those little coops are ater tight, and being wood once bedded down theyll be alot warmer for her to snuggle in untill i can get it sorte out otherwise.

so i got the little coop moved and a good thick layer of hay down in there (cause i ran out of straw lol i hate using good hay for bedding BUT it costs about the same either way right now so...) anywho, she should be nice and cozy in there tonight, its water tight and draft free. going to go toss some DE in there before bed and dose her down with python dust too as she has little lice..
both lilly and poppy had them when i got them and the combination of DE i the bedding and python dust on thier coats got rid of those thigns fast. shes so skinny right now the last thing she needs is blood sucking lice chewing on her...
gave her her meds...found somehting interesting...
ive always been taught sub q goes back of the neck or under the skin over the thigh...no problems...
well yesterday when we gave her her meds she did fine when ellen did in the neck area but the back end, boy she paniced...
well today i was doign it on my own.
I read on fiasco to go ubQ n the armpit as another option, so i did 1 in my normal neck spot not a flinch..when tto give her the next sub q thigh and she squealed and tried to jup out of my arms...thankfully i barely broke skin wiht the needle so it didnt tear out and do any damage, so i calmed her down, and decided to try the armpitarea...not a peep, flinch, she didnt even seem to notice it...so i think ill be sticing to that area form now on...MUCH easier spot to get to when self vaccinating too!

once i got her new temporary house moved and set up i sat with her for a while...sheed "maaa" and id maa back, matching toe and pitch as best i could...and after a few i must have hit it on the head because she looked at me and tilted her head...a few more and she took a few steps towards me, and a few more and she was literally about 6 inches from my face and didnt panic when i moved my hand...she even let me touch her.
shes definatly got potential to be a serious sweetheart. just need to get her 100% healthy...

shes started with a bit of a cough, dont know if its the result of mucus thats causing the runny nose (which she hasnt had much of a runny nose at all today) or possibly a lunngworm issue...so safeguard will be started today too...i hate deworming when youve got something already not feeling good, especialy since the antibiotics will screw up the tummy already...but if it is, lungworm can kill so id rather be safe and deworm her, than sorry and possibly loose her.
yup, by the nd of this whole ordeal she wont be sure whther to like me or hate me lol.

otherwise, not much going on right now...
going to sit and put my grocery list together for tomorrow...
and one last check online tonight before going and buying my storage building for the goats tomorrow

Not sure, and I'm thinking you'd probably know more than I do, but I seem to recall that you can use ivermectin for lice in goats. Is this true, or am I getting it mixed up w/something else?

you are absolutly correct, internally it works as a dewormer, exteranlly it works like those topical flea/tick control for dogs killing biting lice ect.
but i used the last of my bottle when i did the dogs last heartworm prevent, so while i do need a new bottle of ivomec before the end of october, i have the python dust on hand

Can you use the paste that they have for horses? And, if so, do you need to adjust the dosage for a goat? (Not saying you should, just wanting to know for my own info)

ive never tried the paste, id think it probably would be too messy as a "topical"
but internally i belive...if i remember my reaserch right that its the horse dosage at double the goats weight...
so a 100bs goat would be treated at the same dosage as a 200lbs pony...

Pink, I use the armpit area and even the area over the rib cage for sq injections. I just grab the hair and pull up to make a skin tent. With the pygmies and small goats it's really easy to straddle the goat with your knees around it's neck (pretend to be a stanchion using your legs to squeeze the goats neck) facing the goats rear end and then it's pretty easy to go ahead and give the shot in the armpit/rib cage area. Your little darling might be too big to straddle though. I've only been dumped on my arse once, by a stinky buck.... you woulda laughed!

I also use the horse ivermectin in a tube for goats - at about triple the dose for horses. It's really safe - I've even accidentally given a whole stinkin tube to a baby pygmy when the stopper didn't stop. She was fine. And if the goat is really wild you can take the paste and mix it in a little bit of corn (my goats think corn is candy) and they'll scarf it right up....usually.

Sounds like you've got it all under control though - you're a very conscientious animal owner.
