Here it is 1:30 in the AM local time. The rest of the family is out of town, and I'm sitting here soldering a project together with John Denver cranked up on my old school stereo (playing at the moment is Fly Away recorded with Olivia Newton-John from the 1975/76 John Denver Christmas Special).

Yeah, I'm old.
You & me both, k0xxx...I was such a dork in HS, John Denver was my absolute fave...I had ALL his albums!!! :love

I was in about 6th grade when Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" came out...& being just scandalized by the lyrics "all you did was wreck my bed/and in the morning kick me in the head..." Wow, compared to what's out there now....:ep I don't listen to current music at all, just talk-radio, & my MP3 player has classic rock (60s-80s) only...

This thread is bringing back such memories! ;)

I was just saying the same thing to a coworker the other day. She brought up the very good point that our parents thought hte same thing about music we listened to. And you know what? When I was young the lyrics DID just go right over my head. :P

I love how they "edit out" some words in a song...like in that S&M song by Rhianna (which I ABSOLUTELY HATE, btw). You'll hear "(brief silence) in the air I don't care I love the smell of it, Sticks and stones may break my bones but (slience) and (silence) excite me"

Ugh.....I seriously hate that song. I do like some Pop music, the dance party stuff like Dynamite but this song is just RAUNCHY.

Yes, my friends, I still use the word raunchy.

They don't edit it on our radio! I hate that song too. I really dislike her after the whole Chris Brown thing. Apparently she doesn't care if her boyfriends hit her.

What I found so interesting is that she plays the role of beaten girlfriend, but then sings a song about whips and chains....
:hu

Give me some Bon Jovi and send me on my way...

me too - I was a fan but wow she took a turn I can't follow...

I just introduced my DD to Muskrat Love......

She said that was the grossest, pervie song.....:gig :gig

Remember Cheech and Chong?
Oh yeah! Had all those albums :D

And I always thought there was something wrong with that muskrat song :gig

BBH - you realize that i'm laughing a LOT right now

*proudly hands Official Fuddy Duddy tshirt to BBH*

hee hee hee

two true stories:

1. for one of our senior our high school dances the theme song was......Dancing in the Sheets. it was a toga party. for the life of me NOW i cant believe the parents and teachers allowed it. at the time really i thought the song was about togas.

2. my hubby's mom (bad MIL) was one of them hippies. one day she came home screaming at him to turn off his AC DC album and those HORRID lyrics. so he asked her to repeat the lyrics to the Stones "Start me up" which she had been playing the day before. when she got to the part about the "dead man....." she didnt have much of an argument. case closed.

but to your point.... i can't listen to most of the pop music and when we watch the grammys we sit there slack jawed and buggy eyed at what now passes for music and what the "performances" are now.

and i think katie perry is just an abomination. i'm still emotional scarred from seeing her video with the cupcake bras. you wont seem any of these Amish women acting like that.

ps i loved them muskrats.....susie and sam... they had real love
