Got an 8 pound slab of pork shoulder and I am planning on slow roasting it in our bake oven tomorrow.

Any suggestions on how to do it??

And what to do with the leftovers??

I put our last pork butt roast in the crockpot with taco seasoning for 24 hours on low and it fell apart and made great pulled pork sandwiches on buns and tacos.
You need to add water like only a cup. As it cooks the liquids increase

I do the same as above. But only flavor it lightly and then add water. I find if I add my teriyaki with no water it cooks down and gets really salty. Good luck let us know how it turns out. :)

You can make fake Carolina bbq by simmering it a looong time in water to cover with ~2c cider vinegar and half a dozen or a dozen cloves of garlic, til well tender, then roast in a slow oven for 2+ hrs (til just golden outside and falling off the bone) basting every 15 min or so with more vinegar and the smashed garlic, then make a sauce to pour over (and let stand overnite in) by adding some of the simmering broth and some vinegar to the pan drippings and some bbq sauce.

Some of this could probably be adapted for a crockpot. It's super yummy :)

Leftovers around here would be pulled pork, pulled pork sandwiches, pulled pork burritos, you get the idea :)

And the liquid you simmered it in, if boiled down to about half or 2/3 volume, makes a great base for hot-and-sour soup :)

Have fun,

Pat

Sure....bring over to me and I will throw it on the smoker for you. I can make you some pulled pork that will make your tongue slap your lips silly. ;)

SKR8PN is slang for "Scrapin' " as in "scrapin' the ground" It was what I named my old project truck and just kept the name for myself.:D

Plans for the smoker? Oh ya....we get LOTS of use out of that baby!! The very first thing I cooked/smoked on it was a couple of my special meatloaves. The wife came home from work that day, sliced into one of those loaves and took one bite.......she stepped back, threw her hands in the air and declared that she was DONE COOKING! She said from now on,she would handle the salads and the side dishes, but the main cooking was my new job!!

SKR8PN,

Do you have plans available for that smoke house?

DH would like to build one.

Also, did you build the smoker itself or did you purchase it?
