Doeling is doing good. She is in a box in the living room and crying everytime she sees us. Poor baby. I just can't believe that happened. I had to go outside and look again to see if it had really happened or if I had had a bad dream. I sure didn't expect for a difficult birth and to lose the doe. She was in hard labor for hearly 2 hours with the second baby, and I was sitting right beside her. If I had acted sooner they may all have lived. One thing about it-if I ever decide to do this again, I will know to act sooner and what to do. Last night was a crash course.

Sorry to hear about your goats. Hopefully the little doe will be fine for you.

It is hard to know WHEN to get involved. Don't be too hard on yourself. Remember the old saying where ever there are livestock there are also dead stock. At the very least you were able to trade an old doe for a new healthy doeling. Just take good care of the baby and try not to feel too bad about the losses.

Thank FF. On some forums they almost make you feel like a bad person if something dies. Like you should know everything and be an encyclopedia on it before you get into it.
Anyway the kids are officially homeschooled now!
I think that about sums up my feelings right about now. Ds told me today that he was so happy he didn't have schoolwork anymore. I corrected quickly him, but they seem to think this is like extra special snow days and I am having trouble getting them to buckle down and pay attention. I enrolled them into Time4Learning and I have spent several hours looking for free worksheets. I am not sure how to supplement the Time4Learning curriculum. I am also adding vocab/spelling, history, and reading to what they already have. ANy ideas on where I can go to find books or free worksheets on this stuff?

You may want to try unit studies and let them pick out a subject each from a list that you feel comfortable with and then combine all types of subject matter into it.

Okay everything is starting to come together. I looked up the webistes, bookmarked, printed worksheets, and all that good stuff. We have a tenative schedule going on. At least DS is getting the help he needs.
It is freezing rain outside and we still have snow on the ground from Friday with more coming tonight and Tuesday. Dh threw his hands up with his truck. We went yesterday and looked a newer one. An 05 F-150 4x4 with 4 doors with a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty for $14,500 financed. They are going to be closed until some time next week or later depending on the weather, but DH has decided that it is the one he wants. If I wasn't so depressed over my doe dying I would be excited about it and our newest family member. It is a donkey. I love donkeys. I prefer a donkey over a horse. I know I AM STRANGE! When I was a kid my dad promised me a horse. He never found one. He did find a young donkey for just a few dollars. I was soooo disappointed when he showed me my new "horse". But I broke and trained him all by myself and in no time, Burrito and I were hitting the woods and riding for hours down the creek. I didn't even own a saddle. I still had him when I got married. So donkeys have a soft spot in my heart after having him. This one is a gelding and he comes with a new driving harness. A friend of ours had him in the pasture with his dad's cows and apparently he caused a small stampede somehow so he had to go. Now I have 4 harnesses 2 pulling minis(one has pulled in parades) 2 mini wagons, 1 pulling donkey and a 2 wheeled cart that should fit him.
Here is a pic. of one of our minis pulling a homemade wagon DH made on a test run. The other wagon is bought and is much bigger and pulled by a bigger, stockier mini. It looks like a chuckwagon without the cover. It was actually originally pulled by a small mule, so the donkey should be able to fit it too.
