So sorry that your hides did not turn out! I hope you can get the other ones and try again! I am very curious about this! My 13 yo went deer hunting for the first time today and I am hoping he can bring home a deer!!

I took four of my glittered eggs to a gift exchange last night and everyone oohhed and ahhed over them! They came out very pretty!! Thank you so much for the idea! I will see what I can do about the duck eggs for you!

Roo, I found this link and will try to find more when I get my PC back, because this has always interested me as well. I wouldn't want to use the usual tanning chemicals either, if I were you!

http://www.moytown.com/Preparation.html

This site has some great info about preparing the hide BEFORE the tanning process, so read up on the do's and don'ts...most of these I did not know!

 FC FC FC You make me laugh

They were so pretty PP, I am glad everyone liked them!!

Miss_TN, I have read the same processes. I am trying really hard to stay away from everything I might have to buy.

2dream, rabbits, otter, beaver, it matters not with this brain method. The only thing that would be different is how many brain applications it would take. At least that is what the website says. Humph, we'll see.

Hubby found a useful tidbit of information for me and it may be the reason my hide was losing hair. It said "if there is any bacteria that got on the hide, it will cause the hair to slip". Well, since my deer sat for like two hours with the guts hanging out and blood on the bottom half of the hide, we think this may be the reason.

Thanks Beekissed, I will check out the link. Hurry up and get that 'puter back.

I AM GIVING MY SOLEMN PLEDGE-I WILL NOT GIVE UP, I WILL TAN ROADKILL IF I HAVE TO, TO GET IT RIGHT.

but i aint chewin that hide!

LOL!! You go girl!! I hope you get it right!! I think a raccoon hide would be so pretty! Especially as a muff for DD or as the rim for a pink fleece topped hat!

I do not have many coons around here at all because the neighbors dog three doors down does a pretty good job of taking care of them....thankfully (so I have not had a problem with them in my chicken coop.)

I totally admire you tenacity. Don't think I would be able to stick with this one. But who knows sometimes I am pretty tenacious myself.
I am watching and hoping you will push me over to the tanning side. LOL
Just waiting on you to tell my how all that taste.

I told the lady that teaches me how to sew that I have the possibility of getting a raccoon hide and if I did I wanted to make a muff and hat for DD and she was just as excited as I am thinking about how gorgeous it would be. (No pressure to get one though.)
