Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

At their big Saturday market eggs were going for a fortune.
i think i told the story about how i went to the farmers market when i was visiting there and they were selling a PINT box of potatoes for $4! i nearly started shrieking and i refused to buy anything. you can get a 10lbs bag of taters here for about $2.50...or they are free in my yard.

Sea-tucky.. i mean.. Seattle has a big city chicken movement also (but you cant have roosters). i cant remember if you can have goats or not but if they ever caught up all you'd see would be little goats walking around in nappies at the home depot. buncha posers. ha!

and you may be a granola gal but not like THOSE crazy people.. hee hee hee you're crazy in your own way but we love you!

:-)

I personally think I got a nod from God to go this way. It was never on my radar, other than I really loved fresh tomatoes in the summer. My folks always had a garden so it seemed easy enough. The chickens - well, they were kind of a creative, yet legal way to tell snotty neighbors they could kiss our butts. Then it was 'why stop at chickens?, we have 1.5 acres, most of it bare'...and now I have a herd of goatlings  Over the course of a few years, my whole idea of what I want out of life changed.
That's pretty much my story too. I never wanted livestock and now I can't get enough...never wanted a truck until I got tired of hauling hay in the trunk of my car either  Priorities have changed. I don't want to go anywhere much anymore either because I have all my animals that depend on me. I am enjoying it immensly!!!

Yeah SD...we're trendsetters dear ;) Must be! Everybody wishes they were awesome as us! :lau

When people find out how much I have sold pastured meat birds for($20 each), you can see the wheels start churning!

Yes I had a friend last night ask me if she could buy goats milk for her lactose intolerant son.

I told her to get some goats of her own! (in a nice way of course!)

Everyone is getting into it.....

Also growing gardens instead of lawns.......maybe it is because I live near Portland but sometimes I think Hubby and I were just ahead of the trend. I feel like saying heh, this stuff was MY idea before it was trendy. Hubby literally has wanted goats as long as I've known him.
Do you guys feel sometimes that the world is hitchin a ride on your wagon?
Last year we were driving around my neighborhood and saw 3 homes with veggies in the front yard within a 1/4 mile of my front door!! Guess the neighbors are finally getting serious about catching up with us.

Do you guys have a clue how often a week I get this?

I'm upping my prices on meat chickens....we only sold ours for $10!

I posted an idea for a shirt.... :D

I got into an argument with hubby last night cause I don't want him putting chemicals on the "yard", if you can call it that....he looked at me and said "Roundup is just salt"..."really" I said, "well, if it is just salt then why are you paying 3 times as much to buy roundup when you could just go buy some salt and put it in water and then spray it on the weeds?" Yeah, don't mess with me buddy.

I could care less about weeds, I just mow em down with the rest of the pasture that is our yard. Who cares how green my "grass" is?

Nature requires variety, hence the reason nasty chemicals are needed to fight it :sick
Remind him if he uses chemicals, that he is compromising your children's fertility and general health in the future.

He apologized and said I was right after I slammed the door and soaked in the bathtub for an hour.... :lau
