The video was so scary. Houses, cars, debris ON FIRE being washed out to sea. YIKES!

I am praying for all of the people in Japan. The videos on the news are just horrifying and only a small part of their reality.

Waiting to see what hits the West coast.

The Oregon coast, Crescent City, etc.... I am hoping the wave has lost it's momentum.

They are starting to downplay it in our local news, after hyping it for the last few hours. I suppose they really wanted people to get out of the low lying areas.

They keep switching from Oregon to Japan on our news station and I am of course, reading the closed captioning, so it is hard to follow! They are streaming three lines, one for the school closures, one for Japan news and then the closed captioning takes up more of the screen.

I keep thinking about that number 8.9........after living through a 7.1 in Sylmar Feb 9th in California in 1971, I cannot even fathom a 8.9 quake.

I'm t-t-t-t-t-terrified of earthquakes...

Looks like some marinas in Crescent City are pretty hard hit,a lot of boat damage, but that. Seems to be all I can see.

What amazes me, is that those poor people had to endure that shaking to 5 full minutes! Most quakes are seconds.

Lots of prayers going up today.

It probably felt more like an hour. My experience with them is that time seems to stop and streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech out and a few seconds feels like a lifetime.

My local news is ignoring California, but it pales in when you see the footage from Japan.

I see Samoa was hit as well, any other day the tsunami there would have been big news.

Such a horrific thing for those people. I hope the toll doesn't turn out to be much higher. Praying for them today. I can't imagine feeling a quake that lasts that long and what must go through your mind ...

That just freaked me out totally. I didn't have the tv on and didn't hear about it until it was mentioned on the presidential speech this morning. Then of course I looked it up to find out what happened. I can't even imagine an earthquake that large. Also worrys me because we are so close to the new madrid and with all the little quakes weve been having. I know they have nothing to do with each other, but the one in Japan gives us an idea of what can happen here(perhaps without the tsunamis) and what we need to be prepared for potentially.

My SIL and brother said they counted 3 full minutes for the main quake.
They are fine though.

Chilling, chilling footage coming out of Japan right now on my news station. They are letting everyone go back to normal at the beaches here. But scary! Thank goodness the Japanese building codes were so strict. Many lives were saved. Those death tolls would be much higher if more buildings had come down. But that wall of water...........

We sold Donald today. With the ominous news rolling, it was hard to get very sad when they rolled away. They already sent me a photo of him at his new place, with his new friends, a dog, a llama, and a second goat, a full sized nubian. Donald looks small next to the other goat, but I think that was his appeal for them. Their children are quite small so I can see him being a great addition to their family. Full time pasture.

It was like saying goodbye to the foster dogs. I know he will be fine there, and well cared for. I need room here for someone else, the female doeling Emilee. And this will drop our feed bill considerably. Donald was by far our biggest goat and Emilee even when full grown will never be his size. And she is just as inquisitive and overly friendly as he was, so his personality is somewhat replaced in the herd as well. It will be interesting to see who will eventually be herd queen. Ginger proudly wears the crown currently, but as her kid her personality was a shy little thing, whereas Emilee is a little sprite.

Yes. Japan is VERY respectful of nature. They understand that they are at an ideal place for tsunami (due to earthquakes), earthquakes, fires, etc.

They have a disaster month where they go over all the rules for survival in great detail with everyone.

If anyone is set to deal with this sort of tragedy, it's Japan.
