What you need is a trained "Hearing Dog"! We had one come to school to do a demo years ago. A Hearing Dog does for the deaf what a Guide Dog does for the blind.
They indicate when the phone rings, alarms (like the clock or fire alarm), people at the door etc.. Pretty cool! Maybe now that you are officially disabled you could qualify for one. OR.. you could train your own .. like I am my Sage pup.
We are now working on "CANE", so that he can bring me my cane when I need it.

I do hear the fire alarm....high pitched sounds are in my hearing range and the dogs I currently have alert me to any action going on in the yard or people at the door. I can hear dogs bark. One of them knows when I feel vertigo somehow and always comes to guard me when I'm feeling ill. Same dog "knows" when my husband is feeling off as well (he is epileptic). Now, telling me when an alarm is going off would be good.....I do burn food alot! 
Abifae, I've been in your neighborhood a couple times then, I've visited Littleton twice. That is a lovely area. I also loved Colorado Springs and have another dear friend living there.

I wonder how they know?
The dog we have that is "sensitive" this way did have a weird life experience. Her owner was a cancer victim who died alone at home. No one knew and the dogs were found STARVING a month later by the neighbors when they wondered what was happening. She became strangely attached to my hubby the moment she saw him, I figure she replaced the dead person in her mind with Hubby. So she "worries" about ill people. She knows they might never move again.

Hey SD! How big are those baby buns these days? Is your weather drying out or warming up at all? I talked to my folks in MT this week and they had 5" of snow. I really had to resist the urge to tell her all about my garden

I would think that but we have a "Nurse Dog" as well.
Our Cassie is a grand nurse. When you are sick she will barely leave your side. Very sensitive to every ones little cuts and scratches as well. Always has to sniff carefully at a little bruise on your leg. When my kids come home she checks them over thoroughly for any damages.
When she was a little pup my hubby had knee re-construction surgery and she was with him constantly. Later when he was bitten by a tick she was on duty 24/7. If he even tried to get up to go to the bathroom she would try to make him lay back down and rest. When he insisted on going she would escort and peek through the door crack while he went.
Some dogs just seem to be wired to be a Nurse.

FF, the baby bunnies are soooooooooooooo adorable. Unbelievably cute. I've decided if the third deposit does not arrive I may keep one of the females. I'm loving the rabbits. I need more in order to have some to eat, so far they are selling as pets. My second doe is due to kindle in 9 days now and she pulled hair yesterday.
Our weather was gorgeous today! I'm still getting started with the garden however as the weather has been so cold. We have been having hard frosts still, which is unlike the norm here. Usually they SAY we could have hard frosts this month but we actually don't.
My free dishwasher is on the way here RIGHT NOW!
Farmfresh, your dog description is EXACTLY how Bindi Jo acts, the dog whose previous owner died. She must lick everyones wounds and clean the ears and eyes of the other dogs. She even wants to lick the lick granuloma on the dog with the obcessive licking issue!

oh, we are keeping her......but she likes to WRASTLE with goats and does not pay attention to people. She has no desire to please at all and is a freaky freakazoid dog. Did I mention that we cannot cut dogs toenails in her presence? She barks uncontrolably and tries to grab the trimmers from my hand. She has chewed up TWO of my fancy expensive toenail trimmers too. I have to hide them from her.
