Aww that is tough emminent domain! They are using it in boston to take over a family owned steel mill for a shopping mall! Talk about abuse of power. Watch out for that!

Well I fully appreciate this would be used to run power lines, and I do enjoy electricity so I'm not unsympathetic, but the problem is more that our property value has been dropping (just like everybody else) so this isn't the right time to sell, even if we were going to.

The other, sad, aspect is that this area is truly a wildlife refuge, so much of it is left unbothered, the animals have moved in there from the more populated areas. The resort near us is well known for having its own tame dear that come and go, they are not even afraid of people or cars. This area is also a huge refuge for birds, small critters and beaver. I suppose after all the construction is over they could come back, but in the meantime I'm sure it would be very disruptive.

I don't think there is very much we can do about this though. We just have to pray that we get taken care of when they push us out and at this point is is just an IF....but it is becoming more and more likely as the time draws near.

Oh SD, I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. My stomach is churning reading all your posts. I imagine how I would feel in your place; we live in a trailer but we have made it "ours", with a woodshop, chicken coop, fruit trees, raised beds, etc. The thought of picking up & moving just sickens me. I hope it all works out well for you.

I'm so sorry to hear about that, SD! Maybe you can figure out if there are any endangered or sensitive species on your property or in the immediate area and argue that the power lines would disrupt those species? :/ That's all I can think of.

I think the lawyers will get involved if they don't replace our home situation somehow. The power company can't be allowed to buy the land cheap because the price is deflated and leave us homeless. I don't know how they make it fair though....for instance, our neighbors have a beautiful home that is 100 percent paid for, but could probably be replaced cheaper than ours because they have no mortgage, why should they get less than us for the value of theirs? But if we don't get a lot more than the actual value, we won't have anywhere to go. It should be interesting to see how this pans out.

You should see all the different opinions on this road about "what will happen"......some are totally unworried, and in fact, one near us has just recently made a giant investment of time and money into improving the worst house on the road. Another recently bought up here and then six months later put it up for sale. I cannot imagine what these folks are thinking.......we almost wish the one had not bought that bad house however, because they purchased it for about 1/4 of what we paid for this one, and they usually establish value by the comparable sales. Our house is much more beautifully landscaped but the homes are similar in value, so we are thinking that our property value will probably drop by a huge amount again this year.

We would not CARE about that if not for being possibly pushed out....

This area was logged 18 years ago and while it has grown back, we don't have any old growth forest or anything. Mostly deer.....the bear are gone, we do have some big cats. Mostly this is a bird area. We do have something that nests in the eaves that I haven't been able to identify, so I assumed it might be rather rare. Maybe I should figure out what that bird is. hee hee Maybe it is some white bellied sap sucker.....

Unfortunately, this area is just like vast sections of WA state and most of our plants are actually not even natives. Alder, larch, salmonberry, nettles, foxglove, blackberry, big leaf maple, queen anne's lace and plain old ferns cover much of the territory. Nothing really unusual for here, those are all weeds here. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they probably came through here and said, well, this area ain't worth much. We might be near a resort and have five acres, but essentially this is where mostly poor people live. The other routes went through million dollar estates, I'm sure that is why the other routes are being eliminated one by one, they just cost too much and don't get close enough to the dam. We are not even really that close to the dam, but it is convenient for getting there.

So sorry to hear about about possibility of the electric lines coming through. I would hate to be forced to move like that even if I did end up getting a bit better place to live. :/ But I also would NOT want to live under or near that kind of electric voltage either.

I don't know how the laws about ousting people are set up, but I know they can't leave you homeless.



Good luck!! Monopolies are worse than government, aren't they? There's no one you can vote out if they screw you over too badly.
