Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

A friend of mine had a couple of nice litters of Border Collies. They were fabulous, fast, smart and intense - but she quit pretty quick because she had such a hard time finding the right homes for them. I think she ended up with her breeding pair and 2 of the "leftover" pups. Her male probably should have gone to grad school, that dog made me feel like I was always missing something

ETA - I have had several Australian Cattle Dogs in the past and I have to throw in my vote for them

Well as far as I know there is no local group for heelers aka Cattle Dogs, I need to belong to a group in order to rescue, I don't have the funds or the energy to do it all myself, and remember I don't drive, so I can't "head" a group myself, I can't talk on the phone. I would be happy to find a group working with aussies, heelers, BCs or just herding dogs in general.

LGDs interest me but I don't think I'm cut out for a dog where you have such a distant relationship. I'd probably just end up with a humongous lap dog.

Hubby is fully supportive of the border collie idea, as I thought he would be. Now I just need to hear back from them, see how their program works.

Tonight our internet went out, the chickens had pecked the line!

We adore border collies here, but now we're the wrong place for one. So enjoy others' and love watching them do agility and herding at events.

I love watching dog agility! The dogs seem to have so much fun. It is especially funny when the breeds you would not expect are there like bassets and itty bitty dogs.

We have clear skies today for a change, but they are still not predicting heat. So maybe we will have an ideal day. That would sure be nice. The news isn't predicting anything nice for the rest of the country though, so I won't gloat.

I didn't hear back from the BC person....I wonder if that means she is inactive.

We ate the bunny last night, but alas, it came out kinda yucky. I cooked it until it fell apart and it was just kinda stringy and not a good texture. It will become chicken food this morning. I think I should have soaked the meat in something instead of sitting it in the fridge dry. It was all dried out. Hubby pretended to like it but when I gave mine to the dog, he stopped me from dividing it in two to give half to his dog, as he had fed her his too. He just said, "Better luck next time, we haven't had the sh!t hit the fan yet."

I don't understand what is up with Molly's milk supply. She has been getting less and less milk and now suddenly today and last night she was too full. I understood it yesterday because Trouble milked her yesterday morning, but she was like that again this morning. The only change is we went full-time to the new hay. But I transitioned them really slowly because they liked the old hay better so I've been mixing it since we got the new hay. I was wondering if she is drinking a different amount of water on different days?

Have a happy day everyone! This is my last week of no income, I start getting my SSI in one week (just in time for the government to stop supposedly issuing checks) HAH! I better get mine is all I have to say.

We rescued an Aussie with hopes of me doing agility with him. He did great in all his training but hated the high elements. We ended up discovering he has lost all the sight in one eye so he was terrified up there! We lost him way too early at the age of 10. He died in my then 6 year old's arms. Because of the 6 yo we weren't able to another Aussie rescue (no young kids with herding dogs....) We rescued Jack before we adopted DS. He was more like a Golden than an Aussie anyway!
I still think I could own a BC someday, like maybe when I'm retired and I can devote lots of time to making sure the dog had lots to do.
We just got new hay but Donki is all dried up now No milk here... I have 3 free loading goats. Well, I love their company but this wasn't what I had in mind!

LOL! They make that threat most years. It makes them look good "we didn't back down!!" or "the bad guys almost lost your ssi again!"

We'll see though. I am prepared to pay the full rent if my roommate doesn't get his check.
