In my experience, you have a year or two beyond the "packed for" date before your germination rate starts to drop. I usually don't worry about it. If I need to save seeds long term, I will vacuum pack and freeze them. Working on that right now.

Nope, you can never have too many seed catalogs around!

I have a terrible time finding seed catalogs that are for the south.

Wifezilla is right about the year or two before your germination rate drops. I have heard that you can store them in the freezer to keep them longer. Isn't there a big seed storage some place in Iceland?

Me, too, and I am going all heirloom, all the time! Oh, all the choices!!! We need a thread on Baker's creek and maybe we can trade some seeds. Most of the packets are way too big for me.

Hubby calls the Bakers Creek catalog my "garden porn". Can't argue much, since I do get so excited whenever I look at it.

Has anyone here ordered short season sweet potatoes? I know Sandhill carries them, but there shipping schedule doesn't match my planting schedule. Plus you have to get an assortment and can't get just one variety.

I would love a purple variety, but anything with a short growing season will work.
