Self Sufficient potting soil?

Does anyone make potting soil from ingredients they produce on site? I've found tons of recipes to make your own, but you still need to buy most of the ingredients.

I slowly worked my way away from bagged potting soil. I typically use 1/3 sandy loam, 1/3 sand, 1/3 compost. If you want a soil-less mix you can substitute peat moss for the loam.

my new potting soil mix is pretty much a combination rabbit poop and fine pine shavings and a little peat...seems to work very well LMAO...

im only kinda joking, i filler a few plant pots with said mix and the cherry tomatoes i planted are groing like weeds!
my raised beds are also almost 100% rabbit poop and peat...

Thanks for the tips, currently I have cedar shavings and chicken poop, but a neighbor is giving away horse poop, so I'm going to get a truckload of that at the end of the season and let it sit over winter. I'll be looking for sand now!

boy i need to get some animals so i can have some poop!... i just use dirt, grass and food scraps... to make a compost/potting soil.

If you lived close enough, I'd be more than willing to give you all the horse manure you could use.

Me too. I've had people ask me about it but they want me to scoop it and give it to them. If they are going to take it for free THEY can scoop it!

OMG, I can't GIVE away horse manure fast enough! We have to PAY to get rid of it here at the non-profit, and so I am HAPPY to take our tractor and load your pickup truck if you want me to! What it costs me in labor/gas SAVES us a LOT in fees!

Seriously, it isn't hard to find a horse owner willing to give up some manure!

just make sure you age chicken/horse manure ect...
rabbit can be used "as is"
